Strange bedfellows

I just read on ANN that Viz, releasers of all things Takahashi as well as some fan favorites like Yu-Gi-Oh! and DBZ in manga form have partnered with PETA on a Yu-Gi-Oh! anti-cruelty to Duel Monsters campaign.
Well, I guess it’s for animals in general, but I’m sure the Blue Eyes White Dragon will surely be covered by the pact as well.
I think it’s good that we teach folks to be good stewards of the dominion God has granted us, which includes not being cruel to animals, but I’m not a big fan of PETA. Truth be told, I’m not any kind of fan of PETA. They tend to use some pretty strong, barely legal tactics to force people to go their way whether the law, common morality, or even common sense agrees with them or not.
So, I’m not very comfortable with this partnership. Could be I’m off my rocker on this. What do you all think?

I think what our esteemed collegue is trying to communicate is that PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is reportedly teaming up with VIZ (Responsible for a significant portion of American released Anime) but is actually a team between PETA and Yu-Gi-Oh! creator Kazuki Takahashi. He has recently joined the eco-terrorist PETA organization in an anti-cruelty to animals campaign.
While on the surface PETA's objective is a noble one, their actual objective as well as their methods stretch the bounds of morality and common sense as they terrorize those who don't march to their beliefs by destroying property and other means.
I think TermyT was just expressing his concerns with a partnership between a popular Anime source and this borderline extremeist fringe.
hm....

PETA? They force their rules on others? I have never heard of them, but I know the kind of people... people who care more for animals than humans sometimes?
But what does the Duel Monster have to do with it? o__o;

Well when PETA isn't channeling funds to the Earth Liberation Front, a known eco-terrorist group, they're telling you madcow disease is gonna wipe out life as we know it. I'm all for animal rights and protecting the enviroment, but destroying a car dealership or sabotaging a PETCO justifies nothing. Anyway about this partnership what are they planning on doing with this?

The Duel Monsters thing was a lame joke, sorry for the confusion. I won't supply a link to PETA's website, but I will provide a link to Anime News Network, where I read the initial story. The campaign apparently is an anti-animal cruelty awarness type of thing.

Yeah, peta is not even worth ranting about. It's just sad when people care more about some dumb fish than human life. I heard a pretty funny alternative for the acronym thogh ...People for Eating Tasty Animals ... I like that one better.

Sorry, I'll probably go on a little rant here...
I hate PETA with an all-consuming passion. I was tired of seeing that stupid "TAX MEAT!" billboard every day when I lived in S.C. Here is an example of how stupid PETA is:
If you are trapped at sea with your wife, your child, and your dog, and only have enough food for three living things to last one week, you (seriously) should consider your dog as equally important as your wife or child.
??????!!!!!!!!
I love my dog. But if that situation ever occurs, I say, that dog's worth another day of meat at least!
Remember, people, plants are living things too! They're just easier to catch. "I hear the screams of the vegetables...carrot juice constitutes murder."
Besides...
He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. Then a voice told him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat." - Acts 10:11-13
If God says killing and eating animals is all right, who am I to say He's wrong?
(Before I get slammed by any people on this site who are PETA members, I know that isn't the opinion of all their members. But it certainly is of the higher-ups. I didn't mean to offend anyone, really.)

I don't think you'll find many PETA members on CAA.

I've always thought I've used a high standard of ethic when I've dealt with animals. And I am very thankful for the taste a cow produces when placed on an open grill.

I wonder if any of the brilliant folks at Viz and PETA noticed that none of the creatures in Duel Monsters are anything approaching real animals. I also wonder if they noticed that alot of the "monsters" are actually humans and human-like beings? Sorcerers, magicians, soldiers, warriors, archers, angels, megamis, demons, etc. Heck, you can even summon Joan of Arc.
>_>;
This isn't Pokemon...the kids don't go about snatching actual living animals out of their natural habitat, subjecting them to a life of slavery and forcing them to injure each other. This is a card game where magical creatures battle for hit points in a fantasy arena. How on earth does that encourage cruelty to animals?
Anyway, yet one more reason not to take anything these wannabe bioterrorists say seriously. What morons. I mean WHAT MORONS.
