The increased acceptance of spirtialism and the un-acceptance of Christanty RANT

Postby Vyse » Thu Sep 02, 2004 8:41 am

Okay, at the Nintendo forums yesterday, one of the people who work there had a thread showing a website they had for a game called Geist, so I read it, its apperently a game where you a ghost and you go around possessing things. So they were asking for opinions about this game, so I gave mine, I posted something like this "I find this game offensive for religous reasons." Guess what happened? DELETED. Another person also posted they were offended by the game because of religous reasons, what happened to their post? DELETED.

I find this so very wrong, I mean its okay for people to talk a game that promotes false spirtual views but we can't even talk about Christianty or else we get out posts deleted and or warned. If they want to put out a game that has this sort of spirtualism and if they ask for our opinions of it we should have the RIGHT to say we are offended.

Then again, most forums operate on the principle of private clubs rather than democracies. They have specific guidelines about what is and is not acceptable for posting/discussion on their forums, and they have the right to enforce those policies.

Even the CAA has guidelines about what may be posted, so while it may be troubling that this particular forum has an anti-Christian bias, the moderators have the right to hold it on what is essentially their private internet "property."

Still, I agree that we should be able to express our religious views without being harrassed, flamed, or censored.

You are right, they do have a right to enforce those polices, but they are bringing up the subject of a game that HAS super-natural elements then they ask us not to bring in religion? that seems wrong

That is a rather contradictory stance, but forum moderators are only human. Sometimes they will make mistakes and/or be inconsistent in the enforcement of their policies. The only options are dealing with it, appealing to the moderators to change their decision, or finding a forum with better administration.

I think I may have discovered the problem.

You (and I) may disagree with them on this account, but it was stated in the rules.

That is in the rules UC, but isn't talking about a game where you go around as a ghost and possessing people, a violation of their own rules?

Vyse well, it IS talking about the games abilities and such... not about a counter-argument

Not on their terms (which they're obviously using). Some people completely seperate games and religion, thinking of one as a belief system and the other as pure fantasy. They'd think of ghostly possessions as roughly the same thing as the existence of elves: nothing more than imagination.

If you wish to argue it (not with us, I mean with the administration of Nintendo forums) I would suggest saying that whatever moderator did the task was being overzealous about the rule.

Since they have a rule about not talking about religious and stuff. Then they have a right to do what they feel is right by their rules.

I do agree that I wish we could talk about express our religious views, but some fear of flames and being harrass.

The best thing to do is, now is if they do the game and it is offensive. Then the best way is to boycot the game.

Yes, it seems that any idea (whether it be possessing other people or chopping them up) is accepted for a game as a form of entertainment except something that deals with religion. But that's why CAA is fostering many hopefuls that are looking to start a revolution of Christian gaming! ;)
