This is kind of hard to answer...

Ok I was at work yesterday and an interesting topic came up...lemme explain the story.

I walked to the jewelry counter to talk some...and a few of my coworkers were talkin bout this lady and all I heard was "so is her spirit still there or not?" I was like...huh? Then she told me this lady had some kind of problem...I don't remember exactly what it was...Well anyways she said that she was being kept alive by machines. The machines were makin her heart pump, and her lungs breathe...shes brain dead tho I believe. So she is considered alive...so this is the question. Is her spirit still in her body even tho her body is still...kind of alive? (shes not 100% brain dead i dont think)

So what do you guys think? I thought this was a VERY good question and what a better place to ask :P.
-"How do we prove we exist...maybe we don't exist."

-"I feel sorry for the dyslexic, agnostic, insomniac...they stay up all night wondering if there is a dog."

-"It's not the fall that kills you...It's the sudden stop at the end."

I think that only once the body is completely dead, the spirit leaves... But God knows this, better than any one could, so I don't really think about it... ^-^;; sorry!!

My answer would be no. You plug into the body's brain, much like your computer's CPU plugs into the motherboard. The brain connects to the other parts of your body. When the bran is gone, the spirit would then remove from the body, and the natural sequence is then for the body to cease functioning. However, modern medical procedures have a way of forcing the body to remain functional. Then there's the part about maybe not being completely braindead...
Take it like you gave it; what else matters in the end? To be honest, it's all a one-shot test; that leaves plenty of places to go wrong, but how will you ever know? There's a pointer, I will admit. Turn it on, listen to it, feel it burn.

The mysteries of creation are indeed many and complex. I'm not even gonna try to atempt to give you a solid answer, because recent research into the study fof the brain (Though extensive) has barely scratched the surface....there is still ALOT about our own bodies we don't know, far most the orgin of the conciousness and a full understanding of the process of the brain and nural system.

I do believe however, that when the spririt is ready to leave, the body senses it, and give up the ghost so to speak.

Yeah i know, no direct answers, because I really don't have any....all one can do is speculate and pray.....

God bless,
Archan

The woman in this scenario is definitely biologically alive, although the question of whether or not her soul has ascended (or descended, as the case may be), is more difficult to determine. Since there is not yet any instrument that can detect the soul (if that is even possible), it is more or less impossible to answer this question from an empirical standpoint.

However, my intuitive answer is that her soul is still connected (or "inside" her body, if you want to think of it that way) to her body. The body is the immaterial soul's connection to the physical world, so as long as that is functioning, I don't think that the soul can "move on."

I hate to say this, but I think this thread needs to be closed. It's not that everyone hasn't been extremely civil...it's just that we had a thread like this in the past and for the sake of staying as consistant as we can about moderation, this should go down too. However, I encourage all of you (or anyone that wishes to further speak their opinion) to PM each other. Thanks.
