My brother got me netflix! Yay! Yeah, I should receive my first 3 DVD's friday or saturday... I've got 52 on my queue even if a good portion are sequential (like Lain DVD 1, DVD 2, etc...)

I am very excited by the selection, but yet it still comes up short... With all the anime DVDs they have, they dont' have 4 of the series that I want, and I don't really want that many series... That makes things a bit hard for me..

Oh well, I don't think I'll get through my list for a while, so maybe they'll have what i want by then... Hopefully...

I got a lot of stuff on my list, though:

To End All Wars
Tampopo
Quantum Leap: Season 1: Disc 1
Lain #1: Navi
Castle in the Sky
Nadesico: Prince of Darkness
Cowboy Bebop 1
Pi: Faith in Chaos
Lain #2: Knights

Marmalade Boy: Vol. 1: Disc 2
Marmalade Boy: Vol. 1: Disc 3
Now and Then, Here and There: Vol. 1
Now and Then, Here and There: Vol. 2
Now and Then, Here and There: Vol. 3
Macross Plus: Disc 1
Macross Plus: Disc 2 (I really wanted the movie, but they don't have the movie version... the movie version is just edited better than the OVA... The ova is a bit slow...
Sol Bianca: The Legacy: Vol. 1
The Passion of the Christ
Frequency
Men of Honor
The Patriot
VeggieTales: Sumo of the Opera
The Simpsons: Season 3: Disc 1
The Simpsons: Season 3: Disc 2
The Simpsons: Season 3: Disc 3
The Simpsons: Season 3: Disc 4
Quantum Leap: Season 1: Disc 2
Quantum Leap: Season 1: Disc 3

Lain #3: Deus Recommended based on your ratings
Lain #4: Reset Recommended based on your ratings
The Green Mile Recommended based on your ratings
Donnie Darko
Dr. Strangelove
Vertigo
Case Closed: Season 1: Vol. 1 (Short Wait)
Case Closed: Season 4: Vol. 1 (I wanted it in order, but they only have these two dvds so far... )
50 First Dates
Life Is Beautiful
Amelie
X-Men
X2: X-Men United
Boy Meets World: Season 1: Disc 1
Boy Meets World: Season 1: Disc 2
Boy Meets World: Season 1: Disc 3
Braveheart
A Few Good Men
The Princess Bride
Signs
The Mothman Prophecies

It will be a while before this list is exhausted...

Now I just need to get my mom to get me gamefly, and I'll be set on entertainment for the next 10 months... (that's as long as my brother's paying for the netflix account)

I don't know if anyone knew or not but there is a "Netflix" specifically for anime -- it's run by AnimeNation.

http://www.rentanime.com/default.php

Veeeeery nice! ;)

I've actually been renting anime through my library lately

Not much of a selection though, but it's only a $1.50/each for 5 nights.

How much does it cost to use the rentanime thingy, Staci? I've tried animeforest, but that's $3.99 a crack.

Hmm... Well, hopefully they take my suggestions (like crest of the stars, and excel saga... They have PPP but not Excel?)

See, I use this for movies too... So, I guess I'll just treat it like a greatly updated Blockbuster or Hollywood... Of course, I get angry in Blockbuster too (like when they put kare kano under "action" for some reason... All the non-kids anime goes under "action" and they all have a "youth restricted viewing" sticker on them regardless of content... So a kid could rent titanic, but not Grave of the Fireflies)

If my budget allows, I may try that one one when my brother tells me to cancel this...

Oh yes, I thoroughly understand the reasoning behind that. What makes me excited about RentAnime.com, however, is the fact that most anime DVDs cost $22.99-34.99 to purchase - having unlimited access to nearly every anime release for merely $19.95 a month is too tantalizing to pass up! *laughs*

 Besides, now that I write reviews for Animefringe I need to budget and not spend all my money on a hobby.

I know this may be considered gravedigging, but... I just recently subscribed to Rentanime... It is so slow! I still haven't gotten my first set! Not only that, but my first 3 DVDs on my queue didn't come through, and I'm not sure about 4 and 5 since I don't know in what order I requested them in... Not only that, but netflix's anime collection has gotten larger since I started this thread, and they are only missing two of my desired discs... The Macross Plus Movie version and the Onegai Teacher disc 2... They say disc 2 hasn't been RELEASED yet, but have 3 and 4... I think someone needs to correct them... When I had made this thread, they didn't have excel or onegai teacher or Crest of the Stars and they didn't yet have boogiepop phantom... They now have all of those things (except that one DVD, which is major in a Serial, particularly one with only 12 eps) and rentanime has proven to be incredibly slow (shipping from Florida without that bulk sort of deal that netflix gets), doesnt' separate things into Genre (at least Netflix SORTA does that...), and has a very low inventory, so they end up with a lot of missing discs... A lot of not getting what you wanted on your Queue... I thought Gamefly was bad, but it's heaven compared to Rent Anime...

So, I'd go with Netflix for anime... I don't know about Blockbuster's service... I know it is cheaper, but I"m not sure about how they handle anime, and my friend has allready gotten several wrong discs... Of course, it just started... it may get better... I'll check Rent anime out again in a year or so too, to see if they have gotten any better... Oh, and gamefly...

My queue is at 377, almost entirely anime. I think I'm set for a while.

If they don't have the anime that you're looking for, run a search for it. For some reason alot of the stuff doesn't come up while browsing the anime section.

I have had absolutely NO problems with Netflix. I mean, for $17.99 I can have 3 movies out at a time and I send them back, they receive them within two days (that is our average so far), and send me my next movie on my queue within the day, and it's here in like two days - three at the most.

I am so pleased with the anime selection, as well. It has every single title I have looked for. I think there are 50+ titles in my queue, and it's only anime. They also have the new releases right away, and if they don't there are so many other titles in my queue, I can wait the extra week for them to get a copy in.

Anyway, the price, availiability and the customer service all surpass Blockbuster. Not to mention, they have movies that you would never find at Bloackbuster: Classic, anime and specialty educational DVDs.

All this and for less than I pay to buy one DVD at around $20. It's been a great deal and we've been members for around 3 months now. It's definitely worth the money if you want to watch anime without buying every single title.

Now, Gamefly we just joined about two weeks ago, and they are sooooo slow in sending out titles. I mean, we had the 10 day free trial and were only able to get the initial two games. Finally, they received our games like 4 or 5 days after we sent them. And then, it took them a few days to send off the next shipment from our queue (what were they doing, making them in the back room?), and then... the games got here like 4 - 5 days later. That would mean that for $22 per month, I am renting a total of 4 games, if this keeps up.

They are just so slow. They have a much better selection than Blockbuster, since the new "no late fees" means the games are like, "never there." Hehe, people rent and never bring back ANYTHING.

Anyway, Gamefly seems like a good deal, but after around 3 months I'll see if they're working a little more efficiently.

Netflix, is definitely worth the money. ^_____^

There's my two cents.

Netflix has always been good to us. It drives Dad crazy that there's so much anime in the queue, though...XD hehehe There have been a few titles I haven't been able to find there, but it's really pretty insignificant. I still think it's an awfully good deal. Now Gamefly...maybe I should try that sometime...XD

You can actually create seperate queues on the same account now. The only problem I've ever had is a rare broken disc (I've gotten 2 in the course of a year), and once the wrong disc was in the sleeve.

I had considered RentAnime.com but I heard they've had several problems with reliability. Netflix on the other hand has almost always been reliable. My only fit with them is they seem to have slow down recently (how fast their DVDs get to my house). It may be because they are getting bigger so they're slowing down. Part of it could be the mail service also, who knows. But their stock is getting alot better. They are missing discs to certain series (like discs 4-7 of InuYasha. I had to download those eps online as a result), and don't have any of a couple I want to see, like Maison Ikkoku, not to mention how they are missing the Love Hina Christmas film and a ton of Ranma 1/2. Never the less they have a very nice selection and I have seen a alot of good stuff through them, and I definitely recommend them. Though I'm going to scream if they don't get Nausicaa back in soon. I've had it on my queue since before its release and it still has a "Long Wait" on it. >_<
