Halloween?

Is it bad to go out for Halloween? I personally dont think so. I like to get dressed as someone else for a day and get candy for it. I'm sure there's probably this big backstory on it, but I only see it and most other people only see it as dressin up and getting candy. Sure satanists and whoever else see it as a holy day and sacrafices something on that day but I dont think that should limit us as christians to go out dressed getting candy. I see it as, even if we dont do it, the Satanists will do their thing anyway!

If anyone else thinks this way and is dressing up for Halloween, please post what you are planning to dress as here! Also if you have an opinion, you are also welcome!

Im gonna be SAILOR MARS!! yay!

I don't really think there's anything wrong with dressing up and going out for candy. But I know a lot of people who do think it's wrong, and I can see why they do too. So I don't blame them and I usually don't talk to much about it, so I don't offend them.

I'll probably be a soldier. My family(cousins/sister) and I all dressed up as soldiers last year, so we were like an entire squad. It was pretty fun.

I love Halloween. Free candy and a cake, since it's my sister's birthday. ^_^ I don't personally see anything qrong with it, but like Kinkosami said, I know some people who think it's wrong and don't do it.

I don't dress up any more, mostly by personal choice, so I stay at home and play games with my dad and hand out candy while my mom and sister go out trick or treating. Maybe I should dress up this year. ^_^ Dunno what as though.

personally, I don't celebrate Halloween, but that's just my personal conviction. I wish I had some other excuse to dress up though, heh. I like dressing up. and candy is good.

I love Halloween. I went out trick-or-treating every year till I was like...man, 15 or 16. Good memories. Now where I work at a grocery store, they have us dress up for it. I love it, last year though i freaked out two poor nuns. There walking behind me and I turned to let them by...dressed as the crow. Makeup and all.

Well, I really like Halloween. I've never gone trick or treeting though. When I was little I just went to our closest neighbors houses and my grandparents house then went to school for our harvest hoedown festival. But now, I just dress up for the fun of it. When we first moved here (WA) I was Duo Maxwell, I can't remember who else I've dressed up as. Oh, Last year I dressed up as Yami bakura(Which I must've done a pretty good job cause I scared my family and friends. They made me promise to never dress like that again. lol). This year I'm planning to go hang out with my boyfriend(Nik) and his friends. I'm hoping to dress as Tohru Honda and Nik is dressing up as Kyo. ^_^ It'll be funny seeing him with orange hair.

I don't particularly care for Halloween itself, but I do enjoy cosplay and what not. Like in all things, who receives glory from your actions? If you can glorify God in the costume you are wearing, then by all means do so, wear the costume and have fun. There's nothing wrong with that.

For those reasons, I personally shy away from the more gory and violent costumes and stick to the lighter fair, but that's just my preference.

Just remember to be gracious to those who believe it is wrong. It's OK to differ in opinions, but you don't want to be a stumbling block.

I guess me an Kami are the underdogs of this thread......(Audio Adrenaline refrence there)

*Hi fives Kami* j/k Forgive me, my past debative nature tends to get the best of me.

I won't turn this into a debate, so don't worry. I don't wanna bring that kind of stuff to your thread FunkerVGirl. I'll just post my personal feelings and such.

I don't celebrate Halloween either, I've done wwwaaaaayyyyyyyy too much homework to do anything otherwise. After everything I found out, I just don't feel right about it. Call it another one of those gut feelings.

As for what i do, well as for me my church makes it a point to have service on Halloween, which lasts all night and prey for the innocent people whom would be claimed that horrible night. Yes, actual people do still die on this night, especially here in LA. On certain days, we will have a sort of minature fair (No, not an Octoberfest) for the kids as an alternative to Halloween. Also, there is another church which has an even called virtual Hell, which is a drama thats held around Halloween to entertain the more, mature audiences. It's also used as a good witnessing tool. So, myself and my church go through great lengths at the expense of Halloween.

On a side note, when I was younger, alot of you guys probably wouldn't like me. Myself and a few others would lay await on our roof with either a hose or water ballons awaiting our prey. Sorry to say that for you Trick or Treaters, you guys were choice prey...ah, memories.

*Notices angry glares* WHAT?! I was young

God bless,
Archan

1. I'm not catholic. The concept of celebrating the dead saints is entirely lost to me.
2. Halloween is celebrated as a holy day for, shall we say, very antichritian people. It is a day that a lot of stuff goes on, and a time where... Well, I just don't like that time very much. I'm gonna put a limit on what I say on this subject to avoid repurcussions (SP??)
3. I can dress up whenever I want to... I plan on cosplaying at a convention someday, so as a day to dress up, I don't need it. I'm a geek. I could dress up any day of the year and it wouldn't change anyone's opinion of me!

About the only thing I like about Halloween is the Simpsons... The best movie parodies always happen at Halloween.

Halloween is what you make of it, and for most people its just good fun. It doesn't have to be anything more than that, regardless of its origins.

Um..... i dont see how this is evidence. Though i dont think Halloween is the best thing to do, a kid going out supervised for candy i wont say anything bad about. But the e mail address will be removed after i post this. And the quote.... again i dont see how this is evidence.

Dear sir or madam
Please stop adoptions for black cats on halloween because they have a tendency to form into gangs and prey upon the elderly . Last years increase in Blackcat gang activitys includeing but not limited too, purse snatching, medication theft, lap blanket graffity, and grand theft walker. A noticable spike in catnip abuse was also a startleing occurance.

We believe the cats are being adopted by hippy/ witches and made to do their bidding with the pied pippers flute.

I mean thats the same thing basically. i checked the link you posted but didn't see a copy of this letter or anything. maby i just missed it or something i dont know. But my point is, is it a old and probably dangerous holiday. yep. Can you go about responcibly if you TRUELY feel its ok, and you're not just pridefully saying it cause you dont want to change your ways. then I think its all good.

Halloween is the one day of the year that employees at my work are allowed to seriously violate the dress code at work, so by all means, I'm going to violate it.

I never go trick or treating or anything like that, as I never really cared much for it. The truth is that while for some people it's fun, for others, (witches ect.) it's a holy night for practicing Satanic rituals, which involve human sacrifice.

Essentially you have to look at both sides of the spectrum. It may be a fun day, but at the same time a lot of evil is taking place.

I don't celebrate Halloween...it is a night dedicated to the enemy of my Lord and Savior.
I can't ask God to protect me while I go out and celebrate on a night of evil.
For people who do celebrate it innocently and do not participate in the satanic rituals and such, I have nothing against you. But I'm not going to risk straying from my path. It's my duty as a warrior of Christ.
Of course, I fail often to perform that task. So why would I want to increase my chances? It's a weakness I can't afford.
I'll leave it at that. ^_^
God Bless.

Well it is actually All Saints Day as some of you know and has been perverted into a sort of Satanic Day for some. I used to trick-or-treat all the way up until two years ago and there's nothing wrong with enjoying the innocent part of the holiday.

To me, it's nothing more than a glorified cosplay day. It's apparent this "holiday" has become just another ultra-commercialized secular-minded excuse for a party. Much like more meaningful holidays (ahem, Christmas) aren't celebrated by just Christians anymore, Halloween has become too shallow and superficial for anyone to be duly concerned about the minority groups that actually take the day seriously.

I know Wiccans like to rant on about how their holy day Samhain was "hijacked" just like every other X-tian holiday (despite the fact that All Hallow's Eve existed before that particular religion was even invented). Yes, your local satanic cult of irritating teenage punks will probably practice a bit of witchcraft and hurl a few eggs. Halloween was not created by them, but regardless of whatever traditions may have claimed the event it still does not mean it's a sin to eat chocolate and dress up as your favorite cartoon character.

Might I mention Halloween was originally a superstitious church holiday invented to scare AWAY evil spirits. How ironic. >_>;

Yojimbo wrote:Well it is actually All Saints Day....

I believe All Saints Day is actually November 1st?

Anyway, All Saints Day was an attempt by the early church to give Christian meaning (and thus allow continued celebration) of pagan holidays. Early church leaders realized the importance of holidays to give people a break and a release, so they tried to replace the holidays with Christian ones. Thus we celebrate Christ's resurrection on Easter and his birth at Christmas. All Saints Day just didn't have the appeal of the others for various reasons.

More to the point, innocent celebrations should be OK to participate in and dark and evil celebrations should be revealed in the light of the truth in all holidays.

I could definitely say the same for Fat Tuesday, meant to be a last party before the observation of Lent, but it ha become a much more dangerous celebration.

One last word, as with all things, it also comes down to personal conviction. If you do not feel comfortable or if you tend to embrace the darker side of the holiday, then it is best to not celebrate it. A fun day of candy and cosplay is not worth the damnation of your eternal soul.

I've never really seen anything wrong with Halloween in the get candy and dress up aspect of the day. I don't celebrate it as a holiday, I just kinda view it as something like an anime convention - dress up and get free candy! Run around with friends! Have FUN! I however, don't think that people should be dressing up as things like ghosts, witches, or whatever and as an individual I make a point not to dress up like that for obvious reasons. Plus those costumes scare me. >.< Especially the ones that like...gush fake blood or something.

I never saw anything wrong with Halloween in terms of parents taking their children out ot go get candy, I loved it when I was small and even though I am as old as I am, me and some friends did it last year. Just for the sake of free candy, c'mon you can't top that.

I think what is wrong is the occult activities that go around, it's a good thing for most people those are kept to a secret so the innocent never know whats going on.

I also am a horror movie fanatic, so naturally I love the horror movie movie marathons that go on, and I always gear up with horror games like Silent Hill and Resident Evil. I guess I just enjoy the thrill of scaring myself silly.

Next to Christmas, Halloween is my favorite time of the year.

I have never had or will have a problem with Halloween. The term Halloween itself is a contraction of "Al Hallows Eve" meaning the eve of All Saints Day as mentioned above by several people. So in a way it's kind of like Christmas Eve, just less important. It's the eve of the day when we honor all the holy men and women who have given their lives to God. As far as I'm concerned it's only as evil as you make it.

Ooo! Darn! You beat me to it...by like a month! I had the idea to make a "What are you gonna be for Halloween" thread! But, I didn't know about this one till just now because I've been grounded so long. ^_^; I'll probably be a ninja, a shinobi(which is kinda similar anyway...), Sango, or just a feudal era Japanese girl. *lol* I have an authentic pink parasol, a really old cool crane fan(left over from bible school!), a ski mask thing that only covers the bottom of your face(good for the ninja costume!) assorted clothing items, and if all else fails...some knee-high go-go boots from when my mom was on drill team?! O.o That'll be my last choice. heh heh...

I'm a big fan of Halloween.. it's my second favourite holiday. I would still go trick-or-treating, but I'm a bit self-conscious about the fact that I feel I'm too old now (I'm 18 -_-) Last year I still dressed up and went to a friend's Halloween party which was more fun anyway.. the year before that I had nothing to do so I dressed up anyway and pranced around my house in a spooky outfit, and watched horror movies. I love Halloween :D

My opinion of Halloween is about the same as Madeline. Sometimes I wish I could go out with my friends and get candy, but my mom doesn't want me to. So I'm respecting her wishes. If something even innocent like collecting candy causes you to sin, then thats something you probably shouldn't get involved in.

Have fun dressing up you guys! Maybe post some pictures of your costumes when Halloween rolls around.

I much perfer Easter and Christmas to Halloween. All the decorations and TV events around Halloween are annoying.

Well the day is all Hollowed Eve. The day before all Saints Day where the demons supposebly party for being casted out.

But in reality, it's just a cheap reason to dress up and rot your teeth. There's nothing wrong with since, really, there is no worship or any refrence of satan or wiccans except for a particular day.

Now I'm wondering, what about All Saints Day? What are we suppose to do in celebration then?

I guess... eat?

Exactly! Not a holiday, but a day to run around with friends until you can't feel your legs and your candy bucket is weighting you down. I agree with the ghost thing though. I dressed up as a garbage can for three years straight! Last year I spiced it up a bit: I was a hobo in a garbage can.
My town is small, therfore I don't fear occultic goths. (The only goth-looking people are the skaters who wear black, and they act like regular people though.)
