Pimsleur Comprehensive (Japanese (Level 1))

I have empty wallet syndrome... I just bid on Pimsleur's comprehensive Japanese level 1 for 168 dollars plus 11 shipping... That leaves me with 6 dollars provided no one outbids me... Luckily, I live at home right now and my parents cover my essentials. However, this is more than a whole paycheck's worth for me.

This is very exciting, provided I win... It's the cheapest I've ever seen these CD's...

This is the first 30 lessons out of 90. Supposedly, this is the most effective language learning technique... I was wondering what I could do about lessons 31-90, but remembered... This was used to begin with, so I could sell this when I had used it up, and buy the next set for effectively a lot less money. I guess I should view this as an investment, anyhow. Much more effective than me reading my lessons out loud (mostly because it will be native Japanese speakers) but I will continue to use the book as well... The pimsleur method teaches speaking ONLY. Luckily, I have kanji cards (about 500 of them) which should keep me busy on writing for a while...

Anyhow, I guess there prolly won't be much discussion, as I dont' think anyone else on this board has any of these... But, uh, you should get one, though... Just not the one I'm bidding on... It's cheaper if you go for the tapes, BTW... Usually, I mean. It's just I was lucky on it for this one...

Well, anyhow... That' about it... [button="off topic"]When I started writing this, I was jumping up and down, then I took my laundry out and stepped off the sidewalk and twisted my ankle... No more jumping... [/button]

I have the first eight of the Pimsleur Japanese and it seemed pretty good. I'm trying to save my pennies for the full set.

Oh, yeah... The eight lesson set is sorta a condensed version of the 90 lesson comprehensive system... You get the basics from all three packages. I'm hoping that by the time I'm done with the first set (and practicing more in my book and with my cards) that I can use Manga and Anime to help me along. I have 2 anime show Box Sets, 2 movies (though I may have to get rid of Akira to avoid problems with people where I'm going... That would be a bad accidental discovery...) a manga I know nothing about called "Zero: The Man of Creation"

I've got a few books in Japanese that I found abandoned... That should help me, as well... I've actually got a C++ course in Japanese, which I want to use if I can.

[button="off topic"]I*ll have to find a free C++ compiler before I leave for the **broadband free zone**[/button]

UPDATE: I won it! Yay! By won, I mean i got the bid. I just have to wait until I can use my Mom's card to pay for it (it's locked up right now until tuesday) I don't have credit, so I have to pay my cash to my Mom and use her card... SHe's not too fond of that, though...

Free C++ compiler? You might take a look at MinGW

Their is a bit of wondering as to whether or not the female speaker in Pimsluer's Japanese program is really a native speaker. (She has an odd accent). A bit suspicious, I checked on this and apparently their are other people who feel the same way. One Amazon.com customer says in his review that he played a snippet of the program for a native Japanese person and they commented that she was indeed speaking with a strange accent.

But putting that aside, it's still a great program, you will learn a lot from it. I'm sticking to YesJapan.com though, as it is cheaper and I can direct my major finances toward other goals. (Such as buying a car and saving for the future.)

Hmm

Well, I allready ordered the pimsleur stuff, so I'm well on that road I'd say...

1. It's portable (don't need the net for it)
2. I have heard some of it before (about the first 5 lessons I think)
3. I allready got the first set...
4. Native or not, It's Japanese, and I'll be paying more attention to the Male speaker... Nothing wrong with him, is there? Of course, it is good to have a cheaper option. So, I guess I should come back when I've finished the first course. I can tell you from that whether I think it's any good or not.

I should get them by my Birthday, I'm so excited... I just hope I can keep up all of my studying when I get to Chico...

BTW, if you're too lazy to listen to them when you're awake, listen to them when you're sleeping. It's 10% as effective as doing it properly when you're awake, and twice as effective as listening when you're awake but not participating. Oh, and 67% of all ratios and statistics are made up. That would be 2 out of 5, by the way. Yup. 83%.

I just got them... They smell so good and sound so crisp... Mmm... And, um, I'm sure they teach rather well, too... I wonder if I'll have the first course finished before I leave... It is rather likely, if I do once lesson a day.

I will probably listen to one lesson twice a day and go to sleep to it. I'll also try to listen while I work. Speaking of which... I need to watch the simpsons so i can go to work (My priorities are PERFECT I tells ya)

sooner or later I need to learn Japanese. Speaking atleast. I'm pretty sure I want to go to Japan for a summer next year or the year after that.
