In this case I would guess that there was no common origin, and that many individuals came up with similar ideas independantly.

My old church had it's youth services on friday night, three sunday standard services (two in the morning, one at night), a monday night thing for some people (I forget who and what), tuesday night corporate prayer as well as discipleship training for youth, and a wednesday service (not youth, just a normal service.)
Currently, I go on sunday mornings and wednesday nights. That's it... I think that's about all there is at the church, but I could be wrong.
