Man claims to have gone 70 yrs w/food and water

Talk about anything in here.

[quote="Nate (post: 1391461)"]I don't think they're right to study him. It's an obvious hoax, clearly a lie]
Yeah, it is a bit silly of them to think they can work out how any person can live off no water or food from him.
It was in the newspaper yesterday, and one of the doctors says "we hope we'll be able to have our soldiers able to live without food and water". And he observes "he gets his energy from meditation". THEN he says "our soldiers won't be able to mediate, but he hope to learn from this man and his body"... WAIT - he already told you how he does it, and you're just throwing that away hoping to get some other magical way to do it?! Way to learn.
But yes, of course it is scientifically impossible for him to not eat or drink anything for that long and live.

Sadly, even if they do figure out how he does it, I don't think we'll ever get an answer. Either they'll discover the source and the "amazement" behind it will be lost (so nobody will write about it anymore and we'll never know how it ends), OR they'll figure out how he does it...but never release it on account of "better not let the enemy know we found a secret to living longer without food and water".

The last one would be extremely disappointing, but it seems like a realistic possibility.

OR...maybe this is a purposeful hoax, to throw off enemy soldiers. Wasn't there something like this before, when people, to hide the fact that they had radars, said that they ate so many carrots that they had supervision?

If you want supervision, just get the nearest baby-sister.

This is interesting but if it isnt a hoax it sounds like something other than our Father is intervening with this man's..shall we say life experiences?

We already have the answer. The answer is "He is lying."

Oh no, I totally agree the 70 years thing is a total lie. I'm just saying he could've trained himself to last longer without food or water than we originally thought possible for a human. Especially if the training started at such a young age. ^^;

That said, I actually found another the other day that gave slightly different details. Although everything else was consistent, I found it a bit funny how his "loyal followers" gave a totally different age for when he received this "great blessing". Their story said he left home at seven and was blessed at eleven. I guess the miracle wasn't amazing enough for them to remember things properly.

If there is a source and it's true to some extent or another, I doubt we'll lose any "amazement" over it and thereby lose the story. Mainstream media is notoriously awful about supplying us with the full story on scientific findings but you can still read about them (Complete with all the necessary "Mays" "Mights" and "Could bes") in available scientifics journals and blogs. Knowing how it works doesn't necessarily release us from the wonder of it, nor does it suddenly make it less interesting to write about.

Still, the fact that his health has been declining over the test was telling. I think "No food" is probably hyperbole. "Very little" seems more likely, though. Not that a soldier could necessarily function on that. You can give a tiny little accord very little gas. A giant tanker that needs to haul heavy things is gonna NEED a lot more out of necessity.

Eh, for the sake of at least seeing it through to the end, he did make it. Fifteen days.

Of course it brags up how healthy and impressive he is, but fails to mention whether or not his weight dropped this time around. It also reveals that, instead of merely letting him gargle water this time around, they apparently let him take periodic baths as well.

This is the point where the study will show itself to come to nothing. Someone surviving fifteen days in waterless conditions without significant harm would shake the foundations of the medical community. Note that the study's terms indicate they have video footage and other evidence, so they could easily publish their results. If that was confirmed, you would find hundreds of medical articles about the phenomenon and the news would be on the cover of every major publication in the world.

As of this post, I can't even find many solid sources making reference to this at all. Most likely, the story will fade from sight fairly soon.

I don't have a solid citation for this, but it's no less legitimate than the blogs on which this news has been repeated:
Sanal Edamaruku (president of the Indian Rationalist Association) wrote:I asked to be allowed to send an independent team to survey the room where this test is taking place, but I was repeatedly turned down. It is ridiculous to ask people to believe that any man can go 15 days, let alone 70 years, without food or water.

Dr. Shah has been in charge of three similar investigations over the past ten years, and he has never allowed independent verification. In 2000, he was asking for funds to investigate a man he claimed got his energy from the sun, just like plants do. In 2003, he even approached NASA for funds to investigate Mr. Jani, claiming astronauts might benefit from the research. This particular hospital, led by this particular doctor, keeps on making these claims without ever producing evidence or publishing research.
