I work housekeeping in a hospital. By now I've moved way beyond fear of disease. As long as you're not afraid of getting sick, you probably won't get sick.

Panicking doesn't do any good. Calm down, please.

Meh, I wash my hands and say my prayers and that is good enough for me. Everybody's got to die sometime.

That said, I am fine with the health officials and politicians freaking out over this flu. I mean, nobody really wants to have a repeat of the 1918 flu pandemic, right? Some estimates say that the 1918 version of the H1N1 influenza killed more people than WWII.

Frankly, it doesn't bother me that death could be lurking just over the horizon, it always is. Just the same, though, I would rather it not happen. The chances are small but the stakes are big.

Are people really saying this is the end of the world? Really?

I'll refrain from commenting to keep things civil and not draw this into theological territory, but wow you guys, stay classy.

Swine Flu undergoes a name change...so quit calling it swine flu...it's offended when you call it swine flu...it prefers H1N1 influenza A...or Bob for short...

Come on people, why freak out about this and this is coming from a person that has a weak immune system and I have to get a flu shot every year, because even the normal flu can be very good for me.

I don't have too much of a problem with health officials and politicians worried about this as we don't want another 1918 flu pandemic.

But panicking doesn't do any good. I feel that the CDC has learn from the Swine Flu outbreak in 1976 and not rush out a vaccine that could be worst then the flu it self.

Also, we have better health standard then we did back in 1918. As you can tell, look at the country is dealing with deaths and that is a country with poor health standard.

All you have to do is just be careful and panicking is not the best way to deal with this.

I was reading up on my good ol' WV Senior Senator Robert C. Byrd, and I read that his mother died in the 1918 flu epidemic. This gave me two thoughts:

1.) That's so sad, to lose your mother that way.
2.) 1918?! Man, is this guy old!

I'm not the least bit worried.

Good personal hygiene and sanitary practice trump media-fueled paranoia for me.

Coming from a Hypochondriac:
NO

For many of the reasons listed:

"36,000 people die every year from the normal flu, and 200,000 are hospitalized"

"If you keep good hygene and control how you sneeze and cough you should be fine."

I do disagree with the no traveling or flying thing...that's a little out there. The CDC and Transportation system has said it's perfectly safe to do these things XD.

I really believe that the media likes to overblow things...

With Bird Flu and SARS (which killed like 8,000 people out of 6 billion XD)

This may be highly contagious but from what I've heard/read it's just like a normal flu virus.

Uh, I disagree with that. All the air that is in an airplane is reused as it cycle over and over again. So if someone gets on and has it, then it will be spread around.

So, I don't agree with the CDC and the Trasportation system on that one.

Yes. Let's hurt the travel industry more by thinking irrationally about traveling... If the CDC and the Doctors aren't worried about travelling why should we?

I mean if you're meant to get sick you're meant to get sick and all that right?

I guess everyone needs to do their own research on travelling and use their own judgement.

I wouldn't let the fear of getting sick stop you though...

I mean if the Vice President can get on TV and say that he wouldn't advice his family to travel and get totally rebuked by the CDC and Travel Officials I guess there's really nothing to worry about ^^;

They had a huge press conference today about it...pretty informative

Hey Kit, read my other posts, before you tell me to read my own research and I'm not telling anyone to fear, if you would read my posts.

My doctor that works with the CDC told me that its not very safe to fly right now.

If you look at my checklist, you would see what I said.
