Reading all your experiences and opinions has been really interesting, and I've learnt some things myself.
It's very true that there are some people who don't want any help; and just like everyone else, there are people with disabilities who are jerks, and people with disabilities who are great. Though I'd have to say that going through a hard experience should usually improve your attitude towards life and others.
