Who's single here at Valentine's Day...AND DOESN'T CARE !?

I'm not one of those "Look at me! I'm an independent woman! Don't you ever try to TIE ME DOWN!" girls, but I am content in my singleness. :)
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

"Random thoughts for valentine's day 2004. Today's a holiday invented by greeting card companies to make people feel like crap." One of my favorite movie lines of all time... Yeah, as of now, this is a very depressing holiday for me. I'm gonna wear black on that day...

Who knows, though, this may be the last year I'm lonely like this... Maybe... Maybe not...

as for relationships promising perfect happiness, I don't think that's really true. Being with someone is different than being alone. It has it's benefits and it's problems. If you go into a good one, the benefits outweigh the problems. At least that's what my parents and most of the people in relationships I respect have told me. There are different situations, but I know that things would be a bit better for me overall if I had a relationship... I'd have a support that no platonic or familial relationship could give me. I'd be helping to support someone, which in itself is helpfull for me, and supporting them on a deep level.

This is a day that I'd almost rather not see celebrated. It reminds me that I've been looking for something for a long time, and I'm no closer to finding it now than I was back when I started. It's a reminder of setbacks and what I'm lacking and what many are not lacking. It is very depressing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evcNPfZlrZs Watch this movie なう。 It's legal, free... And it's more than its premise. It's not saying Fast Food is good food. Just watch it.

I don't really like it.
Valentine's Day, that is.

Part of what I hate about it is that the stores seem bent on advertising it as soon as Christmas is over, and occasionally before. Also some TV channels seems to feel that means it's time to run nothing but sappy romance movies for weeks on end.

It's more a marketing gimmick than anything. I'm single and sometimes I get a bit lonely, but strangely not on Valentine's Day.

Hey, all I know is that I'll either be at work or at school... possibly both, so I won't have time to worry about it, either...

I just thought about that. This makes me happy. ^^

That, and most people I know who are couples and love to flaunt it don't know where I work, anyway!

If you're single (which I am), Valentine's Day has nothing whatsoever to do with trying to depress you, single you out, or make you feel bad.

Valentine's Day is a pleasant holiday where people who DO have someone can celebrate that. I think that's a nice thing and I wish the people who are fortunate enough to have found someone much happiness with this. I have no need or desire to feel that because they are happy I should be unhappy in seeing it. Really, I think that's an attitude which will only make you yourself feel worse and it's a little unfair to people who have relationships.

Oh please, that's total BS. Valentine's Day is NOT about having a significant other. Ever think about doing something nice for a friend? I'm not in any relationship right now, but I'm just excahnging gifts with a friend. You're all being overly negative about this thing. If you're going to accuse this holiday of being some corporate thing invented by Halmark, you can say the same about Christmas.

Get over it, people.

Whoo!! Right on Zilch! I'm free (for now)! Who needs the opposite sex (I do)! No Valentines for me, no sir (unless someone you know feels so inclined to send one)! I'm happily single, until I meet the girl I know I'll marry (the best man offer still stands), I'm spending my time focusing on becoming the man she needs (lawyers make a lot of money, you know).

The preceding comments were meant to be taken as a continuation of a running gag. That and I have a feeling Gypsy would seriously kill me this time.

:thumb: You da man. XD Said it perfectly, if you ask me. There's no reason single people can't enjoy Valentine's Day, too. For Valentine's Day, the Creative Writers Club at my school sell "poem-grams", where we write poems on cards and send them to people on Valentine's Day with a flower attached. Guess which card sold out first? The one about friendship.

Candy Hearts! The one time of the year you can find these things! They may have the consistancy of chalk, but I really like them, although having stockpiles until July is a little extreme. Another thing to look for at the day-after-Valentine's day sale!

Whose bitter? Purtian and I are discussing candy hearts!

Ditto! Mom buys oddles of candy and sends some of it to college with me, although last Thanksgiving I ended up with a lunch meat tray instead. I love candy hearts! They are quickly becoming very precious to me for their sentimental value. Mom gets candy during Christmas, Easter, and Valentines Day, but especailly candy hearts and those candy coated chocolate eggs with the Whopper middles. As for the stockpilling, you don't know my parents! I found fish food two years ago while cleaning out a closet and my parents have not owned any fish since before I was born! It's not unusual to find non-perishable food that is a couple of years old in my house being eaten. A couple of months in an obscure cabinet is nothing. I think the current food record is an opened bag of marshamllows I found that had expired three years prior to when we finally threw it away.

Or you could say "I'm free, I'm free at last, I thank God Almighty" because I have never loved nor have been loved like this before.

I'll be seeing my girlfriend for a bit at night .. since I have to work during the day (can't take days off too often when you're expected to "save the world" on a regular basis), and class starts for the first time this year on the 14th (Noooooooo!!!!!).
