English. I took four years of french in high school so I know enough to get by on the occasional trip to quebec and whatnot. I also had a tiny bit of spanish in middle school which was just enough (combined with the french) to carry on a convo with my friend who took spanish if i spoke in french. And I can understand conversational italian since my mum's whole family speak it as a first language... I can barely string together some sentences in it. I basically know just enough that they can't talk over my head with it . and then the smattering of random japanese and hebrew (hebrew i'm taking a course in next year 'cause it's a pretty language)

I took two spanish classes in highschool but I couldn't learn much since the other students disrupted class until no instruction could be given.

I took another Spanish class (I had to start over  ) last semester in college. Unfortunately I still have another Spanish to take and I sold my book (without thinking about the possibilty that I would need it for my second class) because I was greedy for cash. So hopefully I won't forget all that Espanol I learned before this upcoming year.

But I do know some spanish from the top of my head:

"El hombre gordo esta come el huevo." <--favorite phrase, knew it since HS

"Debo estudiar mi espanol mas para mi segundo classe de espanol."

Okay I'm not sure if that's correct :eyebrow: I still know most terms in Spanish but as far as sentence construction, uh... :eyeroll:

I'm very interested in learning other languages, particularly Japanese and Sign Language.

Oh hey! I know Simeon too

"Dis wah eh fire-shaped...fwah fwah es cargo es dooey dooey dooey..."

You know. The Sims language

I speak Tagalog, Fujianese (a Chinese dialect), and English everyday.

Mandarin-Chinese is my "should-know" language but though I can understand fragments here and there (I read better than I listen), let's just say that my over-all command for conversational purposes is atrocious. XD

In the university, I took a year of French. Also took a year of German. And promptly forgot nearly everything about them. XD

Studied and completed a Berlitz book on Japanese two months ago but not quite sure how much I actually remember.

Other than English, I can speak Cantonese-Chinese proficiently, although I cannot read or write except for my name and a few other simple words. It's hard to remember all those different characters if you don't use them on a daily basis! >_< I know very basic Mandarin. -_-' I took three years of Spanish in HS and a semester in college. Mi espanol es muy mal. Solamente se un poco. =P And of course the few words and phrases of Japanese picked up in Anime. ;D

Language proficiency has always been a VERY sensitive topic to me since I've been ridiculed and alienated for my inability to speak Chinese dialects in my home country.

Despite the discouragement I've faced, thank God I've met nice ppl who are willing to patiently teach me through daily conversations in the United States. So now, I'm working hard to achieve my personal goal (stated in another thread before): To be able to speak fluently in Mandarin and Cantonese by the age of 25.

Motive: "No one is going to ever make fun of me anymore when it comes to speaking Chinese. I'll show those jerks I'm not a 'banana.'"

Banana is a cruel term used on English-speaking Chinese, who can't speak Chinese. "Yellow skin outside, but white inside." I hate being called that.

Once I've self-taught myself those two languages/dialects, I'll go back to relearning Fujianese from my parents and pick up Japanese. Another language I'll consider is Spanish.

Meanwhile, I can speak fluently in English and Malay/Indonesian.

Pardon my crankiness. I think I shall stop posting for the night.

I picked up a *little* Malay when I was in Penang. However, most of the Chinese I heard on Penang was Hokkien, not Mandarin or Cantonese (in fact, I heard more patient interviews in English than I did in Mandarin and Cantonese combined). Is it mostly Mandarin/Cantonese in mainland Malaysia?

It seems good to me. I wouldn't have been able to remember the words for that sentence, though I was able to understand it (I think I can read and hear it better than speak it.). I guess mi espanol es mal, tambien. :(

I remember one time in Spanish class, I forgot what olvidar meant!! It means to forget!! *LOL*

Other than English, I have half-decent French, as well as a bare smattering of Japanese and Swedish. There's lots of languages that I'd like to know of course, but unfortunately I don't have much time to study them.

I know English, Java, C++, and Javascript

I mostly work in MATLAB these days, but I also know IDL, C/C++, Pascal. My VHDL is a bit rusty though, as is my Assembler. :thumb: I should probably learn Mathematica sometime as well.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.
