My favorite verse is in my logo and also on my site. Phillipians 4:12. I really do feel that I can do anything with Jesus by my side and through Him nothing is impossible. ^_^

Extremely high on the list is the last verse in the Bible, which you can read for yourself. In my mind, it seems to sum up a lot of the gospel message. The "Amen" seems like a period to me, saying that the message really is that simple.

Man, a favorite verse...I guess if I had to narrow it down, I have three I love above all others:
- 1 Timothy 4:12 (it's on the back of my letterman's): "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity."
-Matthew 28:20 "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
- Psalm 27:3 "Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me,
even then will I be confident."

Personally, I have to go with all of the book of Job, until you get to the end. I don't know how many of you have read the book of Job, but right at the end, when Job dies, the entire tone switches and the message of having faith against all adversity is dilluted with this promise of spiritual riches. How can you call it faith if you are guaranteed a reward? From what I've heard, the ending was altered when one of the versions of the bible was assembled anyway...

I'm a Job fan myself (sig), and this irks me just a bit. Job doesn't die (technically he does, sometime after the book, as it does say how old he lives). I'm almost certain you are referring to the book after God appears. Yes, it does have a very different feel. If your Job does die, you must have an altered version...

You can call it faith if you're promised a reward. As I've said before, the rocks hurt just as much, faith or no (referance to Stephen).

On that note, all Christians are promised a great reward: eternity in heaven, a crown of life, living forever in God's presence...
But it's to give us hope in the hard times. If you push someone's faith hard enough without telling them that there is something greater to come, even the fear of hell (i.e. be saved so you don't go to hell) will not be enough to encourage them. I think that's the great part about God: He doesn't just convert us and leave us alone, but He wants to comfort us and give us hope, which is not something other religions can do.

Also, it isn't quite like God comes up and says to Job "it's alright, I'll make it all up to you in heaven." His response is a good deal harsher than that. ^^

Philip Yancy has an interesting comment here. He says that at this point it doesn't greatly matter what God said to Job. He could have read out of the yellow pages for all it mattered. The important thing was that he was talking directly to Job.

All the good stuff Job gets is irrelevant in the story. It could be left out and it wouldn't change it a bit. Job's change of heart takes place while he is still sore covered, sitting in the dust and ruined. That is faith. And that's what makes it such a great book.

true about job. i find it interesting that job keeps asking why he is being tormented/tested/hurt, and when God finally does speak, He never answeres job's question.

that always humbles me... who am i to question God?

my favorite verse, well there's a lot, but the one i normally refer to is II Corinthians 4.7: We have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all surpassing power is from God and not from us.

i like that one because it reminds me that though i am a lowly, breakable clay jar, God finds me worthy enough to put treasure in. it also ties into our place as the clay, and God as the potter... as long as i stay flexible enough to move, God will shape me as He wills.

Okay...I skipped alot of the messages, so I'll give my current fave bible verse 1st, which is: Philippians 1:6-

Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you, will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

Cause, I gotta tell ya...even though I am saved I still need alot of "work" done in me^_^.

As for JOB; I hear it's actually the oldest book in the Bible..even though it wasn't placed in the beginning. I used to have a problem with that particular book when I was a child. However, I have to admit, that it's one of the best books of the OT that I've read so far. And I understand it, I think, a little better now that I'm older, which makes it better to read.

I have a few, but the one that has gotten me through so much is Jeremiah 29:11 - 13 - For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord,...when you seek me with all your heart.

Another one that's getting me through some things right now is Song of Soloman 8:7 - Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it.
