See I have trouble with situps. I mean I can do them, but I tend to lift my feet, so I have to like wedge them under something. Every now and then i'll feel the stress in my legs like i'm lifting with them.

My abs ARE getting stronger, I can tell they're getting more shape and tone to them, but what has me confused is I STILL can't sit up without lifting my feet. Any help with this?

Well, you might want to consider doing sit ups with your feet either straight in the air. ( Gives more strenght to the lower abs I think )

Or you might want to do situps with your feet kinda half way in the air. Also togheter, your knees pointing towards your head and your feet out.

These are *harder* pushups I think, but you get results. I did ^^

i usually just put my feet under some immovable object on the rare ocassion that i do situps ;-)

I recommend just doing crunches, which just involves pulling your body up til' your feet leave the ground then drop back, without locking your feet. The other method can strain your back and hurt your feet, as well as pull other muscles and whatnot.

Is that why my back gives out whenever I do situps like that? :sweat: Good to know. Very good to know.

Crunches> situps,

situps have been shown to not be terribly healthy for you compared to crunches. Also if you are having problems with your feet lifting why not just do the type of crunch where you crunch like you normally would with you upper body but also pull you feet up to your arms as well (from having them off the ground and straight out).

Exactly why the standard "sit-up" is not supported anymore.

You can always do jackknives... We did those in wrestling. What you do is lay flat on the ground with your arms and legs extended fully. Then you lift your arms and legs simultaneously (while keeping them straight) and meet in the middle. It works both the lower and upper abs and that way you don't have to worry about your legs moving. They're acutally more difficult.

what is the right way to do crunches? i mean if situps can be dangerous, i dont want to start bad habits with crunches.

crunches. Lie on your back, knees bent, feet on the ground. Hands to the sides of your body or near your neck in a supporting (not pulling) manner. Slowly lift your shoulders off of the ground with your abs, not your hands (just use 'em to support your head so you don't strain your neck. DO NOT PULL YOUR HEAD). Lift until your shoulderblades clear the ground or your feet come off the ground. Slowly drop back as soon as this happens. Repeat.

when my shoulderblades leave the ground i still dont feel the burn in my abs o.O i feel like it's not really doin much of anything. should i try feet AND shoulderblades?
