Christian Discourse

Postby DanekJovax » Fri Sep 26, 2003 6:09 am

{ED: Until I get permission to really continue this thread from a forum admin, I'm putting this on hold - I didn't mean to jump the gun here, gomen! Please hold on discussions until we get the green light. Thanks! :2)}

Hi, minna-san!

Since a need arose to move some discussion on Christian themes from another thread, I thought it to be good to start this new thread with the specific purpose for members to discuss various topics about Christianity.

The main purpose of this thread is to share one's thoughts on Christianity with the purposes of establishment (to show where one is at on a topic) and instruction (to make plausible arguments supporting Christian doctrine using appropriate proofs and sources), with the hope being that all readers can be edified and encouraged by the information gained here.

Given the nature of classical discourse, and the inherency of forum-based messages, I at least ask the following to help keep the conversations in here as clear and as less confusing as possible:

1) Please, *always* use the Subject Field - Make sure the topic of
your discussion is always listed here. This, of course does not
encourage the use of the Quick Reply window, as it does not use
the subject line (as far as I can tell) or does it auto-generate
QUOTEs (read below).

2) Use the "Reply" feature when responding to someone else's post,
and use the QUOTE and /QUOTE tags (in "[]"s) to use as reference
when responding to another post, to help make the flow of
responses easier for other readers to follow.

3) Stick to the discussion, please! Running on tangents is perfectly
acceptable, as long as you make your point and get back to the
main topic of discussion. If a partiular thread spawns a new topic
not as relevant to this one, please move it elsewhere, and make the
appropriate posting reporting such action so interested posters can
follow accordingly.

4) Please, no need for troll comments, ad homonym (personal) insults
or attacks, or flames. These are counter productive to the goals of
this thread topic, and also may be subject to moderator response
(read: post removal and/or banning).

Thank you, and I now open the floor, in Jesus' Name...

1 John 4:1
Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

John 8:32
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

um, i dont think the admins intended for this site to be a place for theological disgutions at least very large, broad disgutions, though i cant speak or them presonally, im guessing thats why they posted the theology web link. there are many sites where these kinds of questions are the main focus and i believe they would be better asked on their forums. the last thing i want is for these disgustions becoming a problem that actully hurts people instead of helping them.

Well, then I will leave it to an admin to make that call, and I'll repsect their decision on this matter. Sorry... I don't mean to stir up trouble. ;2)

I for one really like the idea of this being a message board soley for fun and fellowship. Which, I'm assuming, is why Ashley has an off-site link to a theological debate community....

This is like a safe haven for Christians to interact and enjoy a hobby without being harassed by outsiders or have to worry about flame wars eating up the community from the inside. That happens to all forumns inevitably, and being Christians we're such juicy targets to begin with. Even if we begin with a very mature, thoughtful discussion, someone is liable to ruin it sooner or later and there goes all the fun out the window. So I can totally understand why stuff like that is looked down upon here.

Danek, if you want to get us involved in some Christian growth, I suggest posting some links for good reading or other message boards we could benefit from. ^.^

Hi Kat!

That's fine. I was doing a little poking around in the Theology link provided on the main forum page, and I may move a discussion there, and post the appropriate invitation from the "Anime or Faith" thread.

Thanks for the input, guys. I'll see about getting this thread removed (I don't see any option from my end, though I started it, heh).

For fun theology debates, and other Christian debates...check out http://www.theologyweb.com/. We try to keep CAA from becoming a debate forum....peoples feelings just end up getting hurt...and nothing gets accomplished.

For the record, Kat hit the nail on the head. We want this to be a sanctuary, and while I won't say you can't EVER bring up theological stuff--that would undermine the whole site--it's best to keep stuff that will stir up controversy to a minimum. Obviously none of us here are ashamed of our beliefs, so don't think I'm in any way inhibiting Christianity (duh). I just believe this is not the right site to be debating over things.
Also, usually topics like this--ones of a specifically christian nature--should go in the Christian Growth forum, not General.
