someone please translate this for me

here is a screen capture from twelve kingdoms that didn't have any subs or translation and I think it may be integral to me knowing what happens in the story. Some one who knows Japanese please help me out here.

Huh... The far right side (The beginning of the letter) seems to be a date. I *think* that says, "San Juu Ni nen, ichi gatsu" or "January of the year 32."

How am I doing so far, shooby?

That would explain why I only recognized the date! :lol: Anyway, that specific bit of kanjii should still be accurate, kedo...
