*Notices Moderators pointing spears for gravedigging*

GAH! No worries, no worries, I didn't come to fan the dying flames of this debate, but I didn't want to start another thread on Halloween either.......

Frankly, I just came to repay my part of the bargain with cbwing. Being, he openly announced his faith to me, I didn't think it was fair that I simply just dissappeared (Not out of choice) without telling him mine.

Yo cbwing, thanks for telling me. As for myself I'm Pentacostle, Apostolic. Not too many are familular of our existance so to speak...... :lol:

Anyways, I'm sure as the Halloween holiday itself draws closer this thread will possibly re-open with fresh posts. I'm just sad that I probably wont be around to join the debative fun. However, seeing the tips of those spears drawing closer, I'll cease for now :sweat:

I'll get my debative kicks from Theologyweb, it's really tons of fun. I'm currently arguing with a geneticist, and a few other guys......

Anyways, I think I've already posted more then I should have,
God Bless,
Archan

A few quick things...

1. As I have said time and time again, it is a mistake to equate the modern secular celebration of Halloween with the ancient pagan holiday.

2. It is a small minority of people who participate in any satanic and/or occultic rituals on Halloween.

3. Although many satanists may have first gotten involved with Satanism through Halloween, that does not mean that we will. In fact, given that they are a minority of the population, the odds are very much against this happening, especially for those of us that use discernment in our celebrations.

Also, I would appreciate it if you would show a little more respect by not immediately calling those who believe differently from you "foolish."

oh yeah BIG STORY my pumpkin friends, dressing up, candy(but then it wasn't candy so) it all has to do with these people trying to get rid of demons, but I'm not one tocorrect on that so I don't totally know what to say, but i wouldn't do it.
(I say forget the costume and go buy a bag of candy or two yourself and don't waste it on a costume to which most people are unaware of why it was started and why its so bad)

I'm not here to give you the go ahead or to tell you not to all I ask as Christians we ask God besides who would know better? In closing (lol) just ask him if it's right and if he wnts you doing it.

so powerful that even God will bow
down to you and all his angels fall at your feet.
What would you do with it?

Ignoring the contradiction in using what you have seen as evidence for something that is "not seen with the naked eye," what is the ritual/s to which you are referring?

In that case, have you ever seen someone do this? If so, what is your justification for claiming that it would greatly increase the number of people who we would identify as Satanists? Furthermore, what bearing does this have on the discussion at hand, since we are still talking about a minority of the population in either case?

And this raises an important point. For all the talk about how Halloween is one big satanic ritual, I have never in my life seen any pagan/satanic rituals performed on Halloween, and I would be willing to bet that the same holds true for most people who participate in the modern secular version of Halloween. Why is this so? Perhaps there are some significant differences between the modern secular version of Halloween, and the pagan festivals that occur on the same day, both in their form, and in the people who celebrate them. This is what I have been saying all along.

EmperorofAsia...don't double post..the edit feature on CAA works really well. And for future reference...before you jump into a thread thats up to 7 pages...read. Also....allow me to ask a question. My friend Bill just said he prays everynight that a demonic curse be on all twinkies. I just ate a twinkie...while watching a Christian kids show of Larry the Cucumber with my nephew. Have I sinned?

I think Halloween is fine. I know what it is, and what it was, and I know there's people who still do the Satanic stuff on that day. However I personally see no problem with dressing up and getting free candy, but in my county there's a law that says you can't trick-or-treat after you turn 14. And like everyone else I will run a disclaimer that says I mean no harm to those who don't care for it, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

However I will say there's a lot of sick [admin censor. Even though you used signs for letters...please keep the younger members in mind. -Shatterheart]out there who try to harm kids by givin' 'em poison candy or stuff with razors in it or whatnot...I don't think we've ever had a problem with it in my town, but it is a risk...that's why they say for parents to check the candy before the kids eat it.

:wow!: Bummer... I wonder if there's a law like that around here. I'm TWICE that age, and I'd still trick-or-treat if I could get away with it... :evil:

I am confused on this topic as well.

When I was small I attended Halloween parties and went trick-or-treating;

I got a little bigger and was told that celebrating Halloween was wrong;

then I got a little bigger some more and my local church had a sleep-in on Halloween with a Christian-oriented program for the kids (to take attention away from the practices of Halloween);

then I was told that doing anything on Halloween was the same as celebrating it (and that goes for the sleep-in too);

then I read posts from this thread, saying that it's not Halloween itself that's wrong;

then I mention to my friend that I might get dressed up for Halloween;

then she tells me that dressing up on Halloween but saying "oh I'm not celebrating I'm just dressing up" is the same as going to get a tarot card reading even if you don't believe in it.

So yeah, I'm confused. But since I'm not too sure about it, I don't do anything for Halloween except me and my family provide candy for the trick-or-treaters that comes to our house.

With all due respect, your friend is using fallacious reasoning. Dressing up is neither wrong in itself, nor in the context.

Such an argument would only have weight if the modern version of Halloween was held to celebrate pagan deities. However, the modern American version of Halloween is a secular holiday (or even a Christian one, if you want to use the day to commemorate the anniversary of the formal beginning of the Protestant Reformation, which also happens to fall on October 31st), not unlike St.Valentine's Day.

In other words, the tarot card analogy is misleading, since the modern version of Halloween has no religious significance.
