Postby Hitokiri » Tue Aug 31, 2004 8:07 am

when you read a username(like mine is Hitokiri), do you say it different in your head when reading it when actually it's incorrent how you're saying it?

I do that sometimes where I look who made a post and th eusers names and I misprounouce the name or accidently read it differently. Though when you sit down and look at the name and actyually read it and prnounce it, you get it right.

wierd huh.

for instance I'm gonna pick on a members name(sorry!) and this happens to me when I read her name: Sheherazade.

When I'm reading the post and see her name. In my head I pronounce it Sherazad. But when I read it out loud and think nbout it, I say it correctly.

If you think bout how you get the members names wrong when you read it quickly but if you think bout the name and sya it, you get it right.

Mine consists of letters and words, so it isn't difficult...

Most of the time I don't do this, but I will admit that it happens on occasion. The tendency to see the first and last letters of words is a strong one. Two examples that were only corrected vaguely recently:
Mangafanatic = "Megafanatic"
Ingemar = "Inegmar"

the last word in your name, uc, is difficult sometimes. I keep wanting to think it's pronounced--sI-DO-nim, but then I just stick with uc 'cause it's easier.

I've misspelled a few names sometimes and I'm still not sure about the pronunciation of somepeople's names. I just woke up so I'm really tired and can't think strait.

I don't think mine is too hard to say *Bakura walks by* Oh! Gotta go! *runs after Bakura*

O.o Or is "uck" right?

I don’t think mine is tough, just ‘kah-G’ or ‘kah-jEE.’

But I must confess that I do pronounce one members name wrong every time, even though I know the correct way. Skynes.

I know it is supposed to be pronounced like ‘skIns’, but I can’t help but say ‘skI-nehs.’
I guess it’s just a good thing he cant hear me mess it up every time. ^_^

- kah-G

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

I use the avatars people have to establish recognition until I get the names down. (Freaks me when people switch pics, though.) I often wonder what some people's names mean.

Well, in case anyone really makes this mistake...

It's NOT pronounced "sman-beyond" (like it was all run together), but "Ess Man Beyond". My name should be "S-Man Beyond" (and no, you wouldn't pronounce the dash)

I do hope that no one has a problem with pronoucing mine.

Here's an interesting twist: How about also going over the origin of screen names. Some of them are very unique and I'm curious to hear the stories behind them.

Kokoro Daisuke. ko-ko-RO DIE-su-kay. I've had so much fun explaining to people how to pronounce in the 4 years I've used the alias. ^^

And since I didn't post in the linked topic: I stole the name from a character of mine (a vampire boy, if you're curious) whom I've grown very fond of over the years. He was the first character I wrote in great depth about, so he holds a lot of sentimental value to me. And we act a lot alike. Heh, so my alias is one big fat "tribute" (can't think of a better word. ^^; ) to my dearest midget vampire.

Given that no one will want to go to the "What does your screen name mean?" thread and search for a particular member's story, I'm just going to repost mine here.

I created my screen name about four or five years ago by combining the name of Stupendous Man (from Calvin and Hobbes) with the title of the show Batman Beyond (Note: I like the "original" Batman as well, but I liked the fact that the "new" Batman was a chivalrous teenager).

So no, the S-Man part is NOT short for Superman, although I like him too (even though both Batmans are cooler).

The origin of my name is rather simple. My general online alias is uncreative pseudonym. This was created for purposes of a pen name, and it was the first original thing that I thought of. Simply put, I thought it was funny. But there was a character limit on CAA's usernames, so I shortened uncreative to uc. This has stuck.

Basically pronounced like that one chic's from FFX-2. Lenne, ‘xcept mine's waaaaaaaay cooler because it means 'Light', or 'Bringer of the Light', and is a Irish translation of my birth name which I never go by unless I'm in mega-poo.
I came about it once in a book, where the main heroine was named Lehn, and she kicked some major butt. And then one day I was looking up the origins of my birth name for a school project, came across Lehn as an Irish translation of it, remembered the book, and the rest is history because I joined up here later that day.

Hey Kokoro, just wanted to mention that once when Chloe referred to you as "Koko", I got confused and wondered what is she doing talking about my big brother??!! You see, I never call my brother by his name, I call him "koko" or "ge ge" which mean big brother in Chinese. His little sister calling him by his name is considered rude. 0.o

Anyway, my friends used to call me "May" for short but then, a new student came in last year and her name was May. And she also had the same family name as mine! Therefore, I lost my nickname "May" and everyone shifted to "Mav" or "Mave" for me. lol

Oooooh! I always thought the ‘UC’ part was a deranged acronym for the phrase ‘You see.’ Hence, where we would see your screen name (or your fake name) it would instead just tell the onlooker that they are currently viewing your fake name, or ‘you see pseudonym’ (UC Pseudonym).

Hmm, well, good to know. ;)

Mine's simple enough, I hope...

First off, if you can't pronounce "Link"..... just get off the internet right now, please.... AND stop calling Link; Zelda or the Zelda dude! ;)

As for Antilles... pronounced just like the greater chain and lesser chain of islands above South America... o'yeah and *mumbles* it’s just like Wedge's last name in Star Wars. *mumbles*

Btw, It's not pronounced.. "Anti-less or An-til-lease or Aunt Elis" it's more like "An-til-ease"
