This is the proof:

Would the U.S. make Popeye an ambassador? Would the Belgians give Tin-Tin the job? I think not!

DORAEMON!!!

I grew up on Doraemon. It was an integral part of my childhood.

Heck yes Doraemon would make a great cultural ambassador. Actually, I think Edogawa Conan would be even better because Detective Conan appeals to a wider age range, but if you're going to brainwash the next generation of foreigners, I suppose the kids are the way to go.

And don't laugh; anime and popular culture have a huge influence as a "soft power" for peace in East Asia. It's said that lots of the prejudices that many Japanese feel towards South Korea has softened in years just because of Korean drama. I'm Chinese, and lots of my friends and such have parents that despise the Japanese because of Nanjing and other wartime atrocities, but the children can't get enough of anime and manga. It may be a little ridiculous and insane, but it may have a positive impact on international relationships, as crazy as that sounds. Maybe not so much Doraemon, though...

Ash?! Ash is NOTHING. Nobita should be about FIFTY now, and Doraemon's not even the oldest anime out there.

Which, come to think of it, means Nobita should be at least as old as he was when he sent Doraemon back in time to help his younger self.... my head hurts, now.

I always wanted to watch Doraemon, but I doubt it'll ever get licensed in any form (aren't there like a thousand episodes or something?), and I also doubt that alternate sources are available (because nobody wants to bother with really old stuff apparently).
