MetroCon '07 Picture Report GO! [image heavy]

Last Saturday [July 7], Rii-chan [rii namuras] and I, along with Rii-chan's little brother [Mega.EXE] went to MetroCon at the Tampa Convention Center. It was our first con, and I can tell you that I was [and still am] completely and totally psyched! This was quite the awesome event and I am definitely going to MetroCon '08 ~ hopefully for all three days this time! Rii-chan was the only one of us with enough sense to pull together a cosplay [an admittedly rushed Haruhi Fujioka of Ouran fame], but we'll be prepared next time! I apologize for the crappy pics, but my little digicam only has so much capability. I may have to either bum Dad's high-end camera next year, or get my own fancy camera.

Pics AHOY!

Image
We found a really cool group of dancing ANBU ~ note the ghetto blaster.

Image
We even saw a Gaz [from Invader Zim]. Kawaii desu ne? [and not just because of the purple hair XD]

Image
Mom ASKED for a picture of me. This is what she got. The chinfuzz has been removed ~ wasn't doing it for me. This is me sitting in the stands for the Anime Human Chess Match [which I'm told MetroCon pioneered] ~ this year's theme was Anime vs. Video Games. It fluctuated in quality fighting-wise, but was overall enjoyable, coming to a climax with a Cloud vs. Sephiroth battle [what else?]. I will say that Sephiroth's entrance was pretty cool ~ they had One-Winged Angel blaring and smoke machines going and everything. The cosplay looked pretty solid, too. I'd have gotten pics, but my camera's flash and zoom are too wussy.

Image
Ah, the joys of being broke and wanting to cosplay. This guy was pretty funny, though.

Image
Y'know, I think this shot sums up MetroCon pretty well. You've got some random guy talking on his cell phone, with a couple of Sailor Senshi just a few seats down ~ and no-one seems to notice. I love this con stuff.

Image
Mega had brought an ACE bandage with him for some reason. The kid has some cheap thrills in life. We're thinking of having him cosplay Makoto Shishio next year.

Image
I had to have a shot of this foam Super Saiya-jin 'do.

Image
I wish this picture was better, because this Final Fantasy XII Judge costume was FREAKING. AWESOME. It looked PERFECT. I wish you could have seen it in person, because this picture doesn't do it justice.

Image
Heh. I think less than 50% of the people here actually had their natural hair color on display. We were part of that minority. Next year, though . . . who knows? ^_^

Image
YAY, the Vic Mignogna panel! Vic is one of my personal heroes. Here he is holding Laura Bailey [voice of Lust from FMA]. His remark: "Edward has always had a crush on Lust." Video here! http://youtube.com/watch?v=TazXmghGp_8

Image
Someone made a Dark [from DNAngel ~ go read it] cosplay outfit for Vic. He's holding the vest in this shot. The fangirls screamed when he changed from his shirt into the vest [although he did so behind cover, so nothing was seen]. Silly fangirls.

Image
Yes, it DID come with a purple wig. It wouldn't be Dark without his smexy violet locks, now, would it? XD

Image
And he wears it for part of the panel. It was awesome.

Image
This picture has a great story. It has to do with a dodgeball game between the Risembool Rangers [Vic's fanclub] and the MiniSkirt Army [Travis Willingham's [voice of Roy Mustang from FMA] fanclub], chronicled in Vic's song "The Legend of Middle Tennessee", found on his album Metafiction [good stuff, BTW ~ and only ten bucks!] and YouTube, courtesy of Vic's personal account http://youtube.com/watch?v=8dkMPPrt1lQ. Vic is pantomiming Aaron Dismuke's [voice of Alphonse Elric from FMA] position during the dodgeball game ~ apparently, Aaron has a severe aversion to being struck with high-speed rubber-and-air projectiles. The Envy [also from FMA] cosplayer to his left [I wish I could remember her name, it was unusual and cool] was in that game, and Vic accidentally hit her in the face with a dodgeball. The game immediately stopped, and Vic was [naturally] mortified. He thought he had made her cry, but she was lying on the ground laughing. Her thoughts at the moment? "I just got hit in the face by Vic Mignogna!" Very cute.

Image
I love this shot. I call it "Evil Vic" ~ he looks like he's about to optic-blast someone in the face. Alternate caption: VIC'S CHARGIN HIS LAZER . . .

Image
I loved this Riku [from Kingdom Hearts 2] cosplayer's Oblivion Keyblade. Good stuff.

Image
This was a particularly awesome pair of Kakashi cosplayers ~ I wish you could see their Sharingan contacts. The guy's eye was closed too much, but you can see that the girl's left iris is blood-red. They both had them, and it was sweet.

Image
Today, kids, we're going to learn a new vocabulary word! YAY!!!!!11one Today's vocabulary word is DESPERATE!

Image
I believe this purple-haired fellow, while obviously possessed of great taste in hair color, is a mite lost . . .

Image
Mizzario in the hizzouse, yo! Word to your princess, who is in another crib, yo yo!

Image
Hail to the King, baby.

Image
A shot of Mega taken out of boredom while standing in Vic's autograph line. It was long and slow. He's looking pretty good in this shot . . .

Image
. . . but by the time we got close to Vic, Mega's makeup had given up the ghost, and his natural face was revealed in front of God and everybody. And now you know why he's going to be Shishio next year. ^_~

Image
And here we are, the climax of our line-inhabiting; Rii-chan's picture with Vic himself. This was the second picture; the first one would have been better if Vic's eyes were open XD. Rii-chan is still looking totemo kawaii!
