Was CAA Down July 3?

Postby mitsuki lover » Wed Jul 04, 2007 2:27 pm

Ok here's the question that needs to be answered:Was the CAA down yesterday?
Reason being I tried several times to get on yesterday(July 3)and every
time I got the same:UNABLE TO FIND WEBSITE warning.
I even tried the link at Theologyweb and still got the same warning.
So what was up with July 3?
Was it just one of those things or were Mith and the other Admins and Mods
working on the site and simply forgot to tell everyone about it?

I got some sort of message after a few attempts about some important thing getting snipped during maintanence and that it would take several days to fix. luckily...it didn't.

I keep a running thread with information on outages here. I update that when there's a significant break

http://www.christiananime.net/showthread.php?t=22075

The pertanent post ( http://www.christiananime.net/showpost.php?p=1139166&postcount=61 ) says:
As I'm sure some of you have noticed, the server was offline most of yesterday, and has been up and down all morning today. Apparently SBC came in and cut my lines yesterday for no real reason. Needless to day, I am NOT a happy camper. Service on all websites hosted by Eirewolf Creations will continue to be up and down until I can get my ISP to service my lines.

I estimate the server will be back up and running both faster and more stabilly (heh, heh) in the next few weeks.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
I'm having some maintanence done tomorrow, but it should NOT have affected me on the 3rd. Turns out it did. I've had words with the ISP, and I've had some words with the ISP.

I've had to move everything over from the line that was cut to a new one. Thankfully, I've had some experience recently playing with TTL values on the DNS side, so I think we're basically up for a while (all my servers are now on one line, so if you see some funny lags, that's why). We're going to have more outage later, but I don't have a definate word on when that will be.

Stay tuned.

I would like to point out that there wasn't a message on the main page when I logged in yesterday which is what spurred my asking the question in the first place.

That would be because it always takes time to realize there is a problem (we're not on CAA 24-7, after all) and then to put up a placeholder. These things don't just magically happen, you know.

There's a few reasons for that.

Primarily, it's because we REALLY do recommend people use the get new function. It's a lot easier on the server in the long run, and it works for most people.

Secondly, it's because people were complaining when I put a NEW anouncement every time there was a status update.

Thirdly, we don't really want the first thing new users see when they show up to the site to be a "we were offline last week" message.

Finally, most users just don't care.

In the long run, a few interested users searching for, let's say, "server offline" will likely be the best solution. The top link (aside from your post here) would have been the correct one.

There are usually reasons for what we do. Some of them are even good ones.

Hey, I fall under this category! XD If I wasn't lurking in CAA all the time, I probably wouldn't have noticed the downtime.

Thanks for bringing it back up so quickly. When the downtime occurred, I imagined OldMith exclaiming "Ten billion crumbling servers! Some IT lowlife just snipped off our lifelines. SBC heads will roll for this!" <-- Did you say that or was it something else more eloquent?

I kinda missed CAA during my breaks/lunch at work--

I was so bored, I printed out just about every article on the old Super Mario games from the breakroom--from Super Mario Bros. to Super Mario World! I now got the weirdest urge to pull out my old Super Nintendo!

See what happens when CAA goes down???

Yup.
Now if we can connect the CAA going down to the Cubs' Curse and to the fact that
UFOs frequent Gulfport,Florida and then connect that to JFK's assissination and
the 'New' Coke of the 1980s with the cancellation of Gilligan's Island and the fact that Vulcan's don't show their emotions and finally bring in the mysterious Mars
Face and why lions purr we would have a rather bizaare conspiracy thread going!
HA!

It was a glitch in the matrix. It happens when we change something.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.
