The Shocking Truth

Postby AsianBlossom » Sat Jun 23, 2007 12:12 pm

Okay, I wanted to say this but I wasn't sure if this should be here or in the Goof Off forum or whatever. So if you guys want, this could just be a thread for bizarre and insane things that are shocking to learn. Like this:

Nori, commonly found in sushi, is NOT really seaweed.

It's algae.

It is? Hm, must've missed that.

But the thing is, I always thought that when nori was called "seaweed", it was in the context of the big leafy seaweed, like kelp. But then the whole question of "how'd they find leaves that big to come in sheets" pops up and we're back to square one again.

hmm the nori seems a bit pressed to me..like I see little flakes, which leads me to believe they sort of process them like paper.
