Yea, BEAR (Battlefield Extraction Assist Robot) are being designed to get the injured outta combat zones to a medic. Oh, you guys thought i ment real bears, you silly fools :brow:

Japan designed robots that enter burning building or hazardous conditons to remove victims for the fire service. The one they have will reach out with claws pull the victim to a ramp which slides the victim inside its body for protection.
Some also fight fires. Toyko has one named Rainbow Five.

I love how they say it's designed to be comforting to the wounded.......it's a robot for crying out loud!

Though, I also think this is quite creepy. Those robotic futuristic sci-fi war movies are not too far from the near future...I can only pray that no one gives these things too much A.I.

just another waste of money, the last thing i would want is to be caried off the field by a large slow moving target

Since the article indicates it won't be ready for another five years,make that ten actually because they'll probably still need to perfect the bugs out of it by then,it probably won't be used in Iraq.
Though any new technology that prevents further casulities is a very good idea in my mind.
