Hey everybody, it's not often I post this kind of stuff, but I feel that this is important.
I don't know how many of you use/know of the program Google Earth, but I have before and its an amazing little thing. Google has recently done something with Google Earth (partnering with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum) do help raise awareness of the situation in Darfur. I urge everyone to download a copy of the free Google Earth program and look at it right away:
http://earth.google.com/
Once you have it, or if you already have it, just open up the program and turn the Earth over to Africa. The Darfur region of Sudan will be outlined in orange and if you zoom in a bit you will see flames that mark villages that have been burned and other sites of the genocide. Using Google Earth you can actually see the destroyed villages and thanks to USHMM you can read the stories of the people from those villages you are looking at. It's very heart wrenching, but these people's homes are being destroyed RIGHT NOW and you are looking at the remains. Perhaps now that people can actually see what is happening, people will start to take this more seriously.
I urge everyone to pass this on to everyone they know and tell people about it.
