New Model Rules

I'm sure alot of you have heard of the new rules for being a model in spain. Or, whatever country it was. (I can't remember!!) Being that the models have to be over and sertain weight to be in the modeling industry in that country.

Well anyways. There have been alot of arguements about it being a bad and a good thing. I personally think that it's a good thing. Because of all the almost skellatil women in that inustry. But ppl think differently. So I just want to hear what you think of this new rule.^^[font=Verdana]xxx[/font]

I, personally, think there are two conceivable sides to this issue. One is the side that says, "This is a good thing; people making themselves that ridiculousy thin are hurting themselves." The other side asks, "Is it really the government's place to make this rule?" I'm not entirely sure the government should place such restrictions on its citizens. It is, unlike something, the woman's body [or theoretically the guy's, but somehow I think it's more a problem in women's modeling] and thus, it is her choice. However, the idea that models shouldn't be so unhealthily thin is a good one.

I think a better way would be for people to realize that an unhealthy body is not attractive, and that setting an unrealistic and potentially dangerous body up as the standard of beauty is nothing but harmful. However, I can see how this isssue could become somewhat political, so let's try not to go there.

I think it's a good idea. I mean, first off, it's hardly healthy to be so thin that people can see your ribcage and the outline of the granola bar you had for dinner. :/ Secondly, contrary to "popular" belief, being that thin is not attractive. And it's not really possible for lots of people. I think they should get some serious body varieties in models, since not everyone has a toothpick or hourglass figure. Lots of girls are big-boned, etc., and I think they need to have styles on the market that fit everyone's body styles, not just the stick-figure ones.

The reason this rule was started in the first place because a model actually did DIE from lack of nutrition and just plain food.

If it gets to the point that models start to neglect their own well-being to look good, then taking a step toward preventing this sort of death is at least ethical.

Died from her own foolish choices. Seriously. The reason you lose weight if you eat less is that you're taking in less fuel than you're burning, so the body uses fat reserves. Result: less squish around your middle. However, if you proceed after the fat is gone without re-equalizing intake and consumption, the body has to equalize itself. It does so either by reducing the demand [making you weak and ultimately shutting down organs] or consuming itself to increase supply. This is all middle-school material at best. Not that hard to understand. I just worry when the government starts to run people's lives. It sets a bad precedent.

Hmm, I don't see why it should be seen any differently than weight rules for jockeys. Besides, these girls are often looked up to as beautiful, and it often presents problems for girls that aren't secure with themselves. Besides, there's nothing wrong with setting a few health guidelines.

It's different because weight rules for jockeys [unless you have evidence otherwise] are enacted by the sport's league, whereas this appears to be a law. Like I said, it sets a bad precedent.
