I.. can NOT... sleep.

Talk about anything in here.

I.. can NOT... sleep.

Postby Shia Kyosuka » Thu Oct 12, 2006 2:40 am

I dunno why, but I've had a problem with being able to go to sleep for like... years, now.

Every night, when it's time for me to go to sleep, I lie there...

and lie there...

and lie there...

aaaaaaand lie there, eveeeeen mooore! :D

Really, I'm annoyed by it. I want to wake up the next day, and feel refreshed and ready for school, so I can be much more productive during the day.

As you can tell, I still can't sleep, so I'm asking all of you guys what I should do.

Things I've tried:

-Opening a window to stablize the temperature in the room.

-turning on a fan to cool me down.

-drawing, doing something that will make my mind work

-thinking to myself...

...

None of it's working.

I'm thinking of taking sleeping pills.

What's worse is, my parents think I'm just ignoring them when they say to go to sleep, and have started punishing me for it. When I tell them I can't get to sleep, they think I'm lying to get out of trouble. So far, they haven't helped one ounce. :/

Can someone just please tell me what I can do to get to sleep at night? PLEASE?
had enough.

When I was going through a bout of insomnia last year I drank some chamomile tea (and other herbal teas) with no sugar or milk (since both can produce energy). It helped most of the time (not always).

Edit: Thinking to myself has done everything BUT get me asleep. Thinking directly keeps me awake most of the time. Only thinking / planning stories I want to write gets me asleep (which does not bode well for the stories I'm writing).

Could you tell me what time you go to bed?

Or .. should I assume you've tried all the hours in the clock? Some people sleep more easily at certain times.

It's easier for me to sleep if I go to bed at 1am.

When I have trouble sleeping, I mentally make myself forget my worries and tell myself how good it would be to be asleep, and that usually works for me.

(Is the rest of your family still awake when you go to bed? I have issues with falling asleep with noise - I can hear the TV, even if Mom has it really low, and my cousin typing on the computer, and then when they talk. So I've pretty much given up on going to sleep before everyone else, and just go to bed after them (which is usually between 11:30 and 1), and I've been sleeping way better.)

I used to have that problem(from when I was about 12 to 16) ...I haven't the slightest clue why, but it just vanished...no sleeping pills, no nothin'...o.o

But still, how much caffeine do you have after about 9pm? Sodas, coffee, I still turn into a zombie from 11pm to 2am if I have those after 9...

I'd just like to add something about milk. The milk you have to drink to get to sleep must preferably be full-cream, not long life or 2% less fattening or any other variant. That is because the non-full-cream milk can actually keep you awake. So if you want to try milk, try full-cream not anything else.

Is your mattress lumpy? Try rotating it or flipping it, then rotating it. I have a dual-sided mattress myself, and to keep it from sagging (and to help it last longer) I regularly flip it over and all. Helps with the back too.

It may just be that you are a night owl and need a few more hours to get to where your body is ready to fall asleep.

Strictly speaking regular milk is full-cream milk. Or at least in South Africa. :) I don't mean cream. And yes, that's true. :)
