do you buy your games right away?

A very interesting poll topic if I do say so myself^^

Well, all I can say is that games are quite the expense when they first come out^^ Up here in Canada, prices are slowly dropping with new games though. When stuff like .hack//Quarantine and FFX-2 first came out, they were about 74 bucks! So that's the reason I never did pick up the last .hack (and now can hardly even FIND it!) Nowadays prices are getting to be a little more decent. Kingdom Hearts 2 started off at $59 and now down to a slightly lower $54... not sure how much that would be in America though^^ Although the currancy gap between our 2 countries is REALLY filling in (hardly much of a difference anymore...) things are still really expensive to get up here^^

So how do you buy your games? Do you buy them RIGHT away, wait for them to get cheaper/make it onto the Greatest Hits so are like half the price? Or do you just rent, possibly download them? Sort of hard to download anything new except GBA games, but yeah^^ (I'll just use the "rent" option on the poll though just so, yeah^^)

I personally, wait for them to get cheap/make it on the Greatest Hits^^ As much as I want KH2 I am NOT spending that much on it! In fact, I refuse to pay more than $40 on a game! I mean, I bought Sonic Heros at just $39 when it first came out (kinda wanted it at the time since it was a Sonic title for PS2) but then it gets upsetting when you spend all that money and then they turn up as a Greatest Hits for like $20 :/ And for some games, it really doesn't take that long^^ Since I gave my Sega back that I've been borrowing forever, picked up the Sonic Mega Hits as a Greatest Hits title, for only $18 at Walmart^^ I usually go to Walmart after EB to compare prices and yeah, Walmart usually is cheaper by a couple bucks^^

Depends how long I've waited for them.
Two games I eagerly anticipate are Final Fantasy XII and FF7: Dirge of Cerebus.

Games I wanted to get that I decided to wait until later to buy are Radiate Stories and Shadow of the Colossus. I've yet to purchase either.

The first game I've ever reserved in my decade of gaming was Kingdom Hearts II.

I never buy games right away. I wait for the price to go down first, otherwise it just seems like a waste of money (to me).

It really depends if its like a game that i wanted really bad like Animal Crossing: Wild World then I went and bought it.
Things like Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, I am wating for the price to come down.

It really depends on the game and how much I want it. Usually, though, I wait until the price drops down to something more reasonable!

I bought MGS3 the first month it was out, but I rarely have the money to do this... I generally wait for a few months...

On rare occasions I'll buy a game the day it comes out. Usually, I'll wait until it's cheaper though. I rarely have the money to buy games anymore.

I don't buy games right away, I just take the game and send in some money a month or two later.

Wait, no...

I don't really have time to play that much, so if I buy a game it'll be in the bargain bin. I need to get around to upgrading my computer, too, before I can play anything current.

Depends. I play so few that by the time I become aware of them they are old. I think if any of the Bioware games done in the Kotor style become available for the PC I'll get them as soon as I can scrape together the cash.

Then once I get them I tend to play them over and over with infinite variations (If I played "good" then try to find out what it's like playing "evil") until I get sick of them

And as for upgrades, my system is pretty good [well beyond the minimum requirements] (though I am drooling over the Athlon 64 dual core processors) so the only upgrade I am anticipating is upgrading Windows to Vista to take advantage of the 64 bit processor I have

I buy most of my games bargain bins (ranging from $10 - $25 Australian).
The one time I bought a full piced game ($75) was Impossible Creatures.
I bought a second hand version of Thief 3 off Ebay for too much ($50) but they were very few copies in Australia at the time.
Some of my best games were from the bargain bins. Also the reason for me buying the games later is the computer wouldn't have handled a lot of them at the time.

I usually don't buy games right at launch. The only ones I bought at release were Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams and Gungrave: Overdose.

The only things I've pre-ordered were Devil May Cry 3, Drakengard 2, and Kingdom Hearts II. All sequels to some great titles, apparently (I pre-ordered Dirge of Cerberus today).

I also make a habit of never buying systems on launch, either. I'll wait until there are at least 5 games that I'll absolutely want, then I'll buy the system. The only thing I broke my rule on was the PSP... but I think it was worth it.

I'm not that into games anymore, plus I don't have a good source of income, so I almost never buy a game new. Although I did get Xenosaga Episode 1 for half price at Sam's [twenty-seven bucks when it was selling for fifty ~ heck yes], even though I haven't played it in forever.

Interesting, I'm actually the first person to choose the rent option. But in all honesty I don't buy games at all, I either rent them or borrow them from friends.

In terms of renting, I never select games on impulse, so I tend to rent them later, once I am confident they will be enjoyable. I rented Kingdom Hearts II not terribly long after its release, I suppose. In terms of borrowing games I generally wait a while, because my friends are playing them first.

I rent, too. It's just that, since I work at Blockbuster, I have to wait 21 days. After that, it's free! :thumb:
