My computer died and I really need a new one

The subject line, alas, says it all. My laptop had been acting kind of weird lately and today it just died all together. When I try to boot it up, I just get the power light coming on for a few second, but the light then goes off and nothing more happens. So, I took it to the guys in IT at my school, and they think the motherboard's died. :( Now, it's a refurbished machine, so it's going to cost a lot more to fix it than I would ever want to put into a machine this old. I'd much rather just save that money towards a new machine. This, however, leaves me in a very difficult situation. I don't have the money to buy a new laptop right now, and it would be dumb to put several hundred dollars into the old one since it's quite old already. But I still need one to finish out this semester of college. Right now, I'm just praying that God will provide something for me-- be that that I just need to grow in the midst of some mild suffering in my life right now-- or that he would mercifully provide some sort of an machine to use in the interim (or the money to buy a new machine). I just don't know. I'm-- amazingly-- not that frustrated, but I sure would appreciate you all praying with me that God would provide. I know he can, and I want to believe that it will happen now. Thanks guys.

Does this mean you can't moderate anymore?:( If that's true, I'm going to miss you terribly.

I know you can get a 17" Inspiron model from Dell for less than $1000. And they're really solid. Or just do what I do: ask Daddy XD

Anyways, I'll be praying.

Awww, I sorries :( I'd give you my machine, but I don't think you'd want to lug around a computer, a monitor, and speakers (if you have to listen to stuffs) :( I'm sure something will come along. Perhaps someone at home can lend you theirs until you can get a new one? Or a friend :) Or perhaps your school may have something for you :) I'll pray that all will work ut for you

$1000 isn't cheap at all. On the other hand, you can get a $200 used one (such as IBM Thinkpad) from second handed store, their spec isn't bad at all (over Ghz laptop O_O). I am still using a 10 years old computer desktop for my university work (4th year now), and I am doing quite fine. I do however like the used laptop but it is wasteful since I have a desktop already and it is more than enough. I am in computer science (also doing some 3D Graphics programming in OpenGL). But if you are doing advanced Graphics or CAD, you may indeed need a more powerful computer (actually you just need better bus speed and better video card).

It is ridiculuous how everyone is buying Ghz computer with over 1GB of RAM just for office suit, IM'ing, watching YouTube and DVD, and surfing the web. It is all a big marketing scam, as it is common practice for seller to deliberating bloated all systems to the point of unusable, especially on Windows systems that get do in fact get slower over time (Windows in general needed to be wiped every 3 months). And they get even worse now by forcing people to buy Vista, which takes bloatness to infinity and beyond! Well, it works fine on those monster computers they sell, but geez, even my Pentium Pro 200 x2 (anicent hardware, costed ten of thousands back then) is faster than them on interactivity.
