Need to decide about a mission trip

Postby RedMage » Fri Feb 23, 2007 8:56 am

I have an opportunity to go on a one-week mission trip to Tijuana, Mexico at the end of this June. I need to decide whether I want to go by March 2.

I'd really like to go, but I have a number of misgivings.

For one thing, this is technically the church's youth group mission trip, and I'm technically too old for the youth group - I'd be the oldest person aside from the youth Pastor and whatever other adult leaders are going. I don't know any of the other people and they don't know me.

Second, aside from the trip itself, training starts almost immediately next month, and I'd have to work it in around school.

Please pray that I'll make the right decision and be able to follow through.

I'll be praying for your decision...

Oh, and if I'm going, I have to get an application in for a passport within the next week.

Put in the passport application regardless. They are good for several years and if you are going to do mission work you are going to need one anyway. So, if you aren't one of the adults and not one of the youth, how is it you are going on this trip? Did someone ask you or what?

I mentioned to my youth pastor that I regret never having been on a mission trip and he said he could hook me up with about a dozen different ones. I idly commented that I wished I wasn't too old to go on the one to Mexico, and he said I could go.

*Shrug*

I told him this morning I was definitely in if they'd have me, and he said "Great." So I'm trying to put my fear of not fitting in aside, as I'm not going for the purpose of socializing anyway, after all. I'm making calls tomorrow to get an appointment to send a passport application in.

Yeah, the pastor said all he really does is drive the bus and sometimes lead worship - the "kids" do everything else and everybody pulls their weight. I'm rather worried about being useless, too; I wish we were doing construction, as I at least feel qualified to swing a hammer.

There will be something to do, otherwise God wouldn't be sending you. Don't worry about it.
