I know that this might be a bit late because I haven't been able to get to an internet station, but my fast went ok. I fasted from sweets. However, while I remembered that, there is something else important that I forgot that I request some prayer for.

There is a guy in my youth group who has not been attending church for over a year because he doesn't get along with some people. I have tried to stay connected with him so that if he ever decides to come back he will at least know someone there. So the other day I was over at his house watching Gungrave with him... at the same time I was supposed to be at an important meeting that somehow slipped my mind! Please pray that all of that turns out ok!

look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!â€

I had a good fast yesterday. I fasted from the internet and from dinner. It was just really awesome to hang out with the Lord. Everything has been go-go-go! since last semester ended, so it's been hard to find time to breath and to just spend time with Him, but last night I was able to. I think a large part of it was because of the prayers of all of you, which is included in the main reason -- God is good. Shoot, He's so good do us, isn't He?

I'll be praying Anna Mae, for your friend. That's almost identical to my friend who stopped coming to church because of personal conflict. We shoud lift up both of our friends to the Lord.

Also, CreatureArt and Talame, I'm sorry that you're both sick, I'll be praying for a speedy healing for you guys and that this sickness won't keep you from ministering to the Lord.

Thanks, Syreth. I'm glad that your fast went so well. I agree - God is good. He's so awesome - when we take a step toward Him, he takes a big, running, olympic long-jump style leap.

I'm glad that your fast went ok, Anna Mae. I'll pray for your friend and that everything turns out all right with the meeting, as well.

I don't know why, but that made me laugh XD True though

Anyway, i've been thinking lately (big shocker there :P) about starting up a Memorising Bible group. In kid's church, kids are often encouraged to learn verses but when they grow up and start attending regular preaching there is hardly any push to remember not only new verses but also the old verses. Perhaps by having a thread where we designate a weekly verse to remember, it will help people have the opportunity to commit and be reminded to learn more of the Bible.

What do you guys think of this idea?

That is a really good idea. I would really like to remember more scripture, I just have to discipline myself to keep memorizing. Also, I'm really bad at scripture references v_v so maybe it will help me with accountability (sorta) if this thing happens!

hehe... the olympic long-jump style leap. The ultimate tackle-glomp.

No worries, Jazz. I'm glad you're around. ^_^

Lol. Actually, it's pretty crazy to imagine what it would be like to be tackle-glomped by God.

I think that would be a good idea to do memorising scripture, Talame. I know that I really don't memorise enough, and that in hard times God often brings to mind verses you've memorised to speak to and help you. :)

I think memorizing verses is a good thing...when done with the right motivation, that is. I see no reason to question anyone's motives here (hehe). I support this whole-heartedly. ^__^

I PM'd Ash, and she said she likes the idea, but shall pray about it first (always a good thing). Remember to pray for her, that she will hear God's voice on this matter :thumb:

My motivation is to make money! lots of money!
.... ok, so I dont even see how that is possible, but o well  My true motivation is that I've had a whole stack of verses I've been wanting to memorise, but I just keep on forgetting about them :P I think by having a thread to manage in relation to such verses, it will help me to remember them and also encourage others to memorise more of the Word as well.

Afterall, the Word is our Sword; we dont want to be caught weaponless in the middle of an attack do we? :P

I think the verse memorization thing is a great idea! :thumb: While I probably won't join in for the time being, I think it'll be great. My slate is pretty full right now, but if God gives me a nudge to start memorizing the verses, I would definitely join in!

I support the formation of this new group!

Oh, and one little suggestion: if y'all do start this group, I would recommend writing the verse down each day until you've got it memorized. Start up a daily journal where you write the verse of the week down and then write an entry about your day, maybe even addressing it to God. I do that for my journal, although I simply a verse for each day that sort of sums up my day or is just something special that God showed me through study.

 And I'll hush now.

Yeah, I think I need to do a heart check on this, especially since I've been dealing with my pride lately. Originally, I couldn't bring myself to memorize any scripture until I started to struggle with the typical guy temptations. I kinda realized that I really needed to spend more time in the word, you know, hiding it in my heart so that I might not sin against Him. Of course a lot of my struggle was too much focus on myself. I realized since then that I needed to do what HS was speaking of in his post, look unto Jesus. I still need to spend more time with Him.

A very, very good idea to start.

I've been going through a bible reading plan: but it has gotten so that it's just trying to read through it each day - I'm not really taking it in or paying enough attention to it. I think if I did verse memorisation and application it would be a lot more fruitful. God's word isn't just a book to get through, and I'd rather take it little bit by little bit and be blessed by taking it in than by being bale to say I've read the entire Bible but in reality having learned very little.

Thank you for that lesson material you posted, Holy Soldier. It was really, really applicable. :)

I need to spend more time with Him, too, Syreth and Talame. Sometimes I look at the amount of time I spend doing other stuff... and its not good. I know that I can't do it on my own, though - I've got to trust in Him, and, like the point of the excerpt Holy Soldier posted pointed out - I've got to look at him and not my own works/failings.

Graargh. I hope that makes sense. 'tis late. I shall be inbedded undercovered soon, I hope. God bless you all. Thank you for the blessings that you are, my brothers and sisters in Christ, with you wisdom, encouragement and fellowship.

I have been in musical ministry since I was 13, playing bass for the church band. I became an assistant youth minister when I was 16, and I took over my church youth ministry when I was 19. When I took over the attendance was only 2 but God has helped us grow to an attendance of 18, and we are still growing. In the year I have been there we have taken a dying unnamed youth group and turned it into the thriving new S.O.S. ministries, a youth ministry for teenagers, by teenagers, who reach out to the community and spread the word and love of our Lord Jesus Christ. It has been just amazing what God has done in the lives of these teenagers, and I am so glad that He used me to be a part of it. I just thank Him, and give Him the credit for all that is praise worthy in my life and in the life of these teens.

GReat stuff HS :thumb:

anyway, the main purpose of this post is to tell you guys that the mods have given us permission to start up the Bible-memorising thread! I'll do it sometime later today (have to do some uni work first)... I'm thinking of a title like "Remember Your Sword!" or something to that effect. Also, where would it be put? Somewhere in the Christian growth area...

what do you guys think?
Prayer Room?
Daily Devotionals?
Bible Study?
Testimonies?

Perhaps Bible study would probably be the best option...

Anyway, I have to get into study, so we'll see what happens. Remember to thank God that we were given permission :thumb: Also, I think it would be a good idea to start this thing off with prayer and fasting. That way it will definitely be started off with the right motives (good point Mave ;) )

I'm thinking Bible Study too. Wooo - it's permitted! I agree - Praise God. Thank you Father for this opportunity to learn and memorise more of your Word and to grow in understand of You.

Do we want to postpone starting it until after the monthly fast the Monday after next or do a separate fast. I don't mind either, though I prefer the second option.

GOd bless - sorry, I've got to go and clean!!!! :?:

XD I have to clean too... dont tell anyone I'm on here :P hehe

Anyway,. I think a separate fast would be best, that way we aren't taking away from fasting for our CAAers in need. :thumb: So... I guess tomorrow shall be the day for me (the 25th). Basically set tomorrow aside for the prayer and fast, and I shall start up the thread either tomorrow morning or (more likely) the day after tomorrow... so the 26th for me.

Again it might be a good idea to write up lots of little reminders and putting them everywhere so you remember to pray for it ;) I know with my memory I'll definitely need all the help I can get! XD

EDIT:
I forgot something...

Lately God has been telling me to get rid of anything that has symbols that aren't glorifying Him. I've been reading ALOT of the Old Testament recently, and it almost always deals with how just a little bit of compromise (for example, Solomon marrying a foreign bride) can lead to even greater sin (like Solomon turning aside to worship his wives idols). While it may seem that symbols, pictures or anything else like this are just small things that don't really matter, trust me that they DO. These things allow a foothold for Satan to influence our lives... and that isn't a good thing :P

So, I would like to encourage all of you to think and pray about things in your lives that may not be glorifying to Jesus and to get rid of them. While you are getting rid of them, pray over yourself and repent of every having let those things into your lives in the first place. Ask Jesus to cleanse you, to break off any evil influences in your life as a result of those things and further ask Him to keep you strong so that you dont allow them into your life again.

An example of this in my own life was with the symbols (as I said above). I was going through my anime/manga pictures, and was shocked to see how many had questionable things in them. No, it wasn't sexual or anything like that, but things like Tori gates in the background, yin-yang symbols, religious clothing, etc. Needless to say... my picture collection has dwindled dramatically ;)

I believe that by ridding ourselves of such areas of compromise, we will be able to pray even more effectively as we wont have things hindering us as we walk in His presence :thumb:

God bless you guys!

Hey guys! This will have to be a short post because I leave in 10 mins for uni.

Basically, I just wanted to let you know that I'll be starting up the thread when I get home... which should be in about 6 or so hours. My own fast went well, though it was different from the other times because yesterday I fasted food... I dont think I've ever done that before. Anyway, it went surprisingly well! Mum bought some fruit juice (which we never get) and she didnt even know that I was fasting! How amazing is that?! XD Praise God! Praise the Lord Most High!

O, also I'm thinking that the first verse we learn is Psalm 119:11
11 I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.

Fitting no?

Well, have a great day everyone!

A very fitting scripture to start with, indeed.

And thank you for posting about getting rid of symbols and things that dont glorify Jesus. It was really timely and its helped me to make a decision I should have made a while ago. I was given something by a friend (not dodgy but I'd rather as not go into it :) ) that i had kept becase the person is a good friend of mine... but I think it is definitely better if it leaves the house.
