Brief Description:
It is the early 20th century, and Raishin Akabane is a student puppeteer from Japan, who has come to the Walpurgis Royal Academy of Machine Arts in England to study the emerging field of Machinart: a combination of magic and technology with military applications. He is accompanied by a girl named Yaya, who is actually his Automaton: a living machine doll powered by magical circuits specialized in hand-to-hand combat. In the Academy, there is a combat tournament exclusive to the Top 100 students and their automata, to decide who shall be bestowed with the title of "Wiseman", the greatest puppeteer.

Violence / Gore: If the main character getting completely beat up every time he engages in battle doesn't say something for the series itself, then I don't know what would.

Nudity / Sexual Content: There's revealing clothing and constant talk from a doll about forcing herself onto the main character, who keeps pushing away her advances.

Potentially problematic theological themes: It's at a magic academy and magic is used throughout the series.

Other potentially problematic themes: If I understood this correctly, some of the living "dolls" had the parts of humans. I could be wrong though.

FINAL VERDICT: I hate to admit this, but I really did like the series with all of its drawbacks. Yes, it was disjointed and the arc lengths had no rhyme or reason. Yes, there were sensual problems and lots of violence. Despite all of this, this was one of the series that I looked forward to most each week. Don't ask me why. All I can say is that it was fun.
