Brief Description:
Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou is direct sequel to the original Natsume Yuujinchou anime.

As with its prequel, Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou is about Natsume Takashi, a boy who has had the ability to see youkai since he was young, and his bodyguard youkai, Madara, nicknamed Nyanko-sensei. Natsume attempts to return names written in his Book of Friends, which he inherited from his grandmother Reiko, to youkai in his village. Throughout these adventures, he meets some youkai that are friendly, some that want to steal the Book of Friends, and some that want to kill him. Natsume learns about himself and his relationship with youkai along the way. May be seen on Crunchyroll.

Violence / Gore: Some of the youkai attack Natsume or each other, usually threatening to eat their victim. At least one youkai does get eaten but it's not particularly gory. Natsume's standard defense is to punch the youkai in the head. Very little blood.

Nudity / Sexual Content: Natsume and Natori go to a hot spring and are seen in towels.

Theological Themes: As stated in the premise, the series revolves around youkai and all the usual things that accompany them, like exorcisms, shrines, priests and youkai possessing people.

Negative Themes: Some minor swearing.

Violence: There's nothing worse than the first season. I'm pretty sure one of the episodes featured blood, but I can't think of anything worse than that. Usually it's limited to the usual slapstick or smacking a youkai who intends to do harm.

Sex and Nudity: Nothing worth noting.

Theological Themes: There's nothing worse than the previous season. We are introduced to more exorcist characters and youkai. A character is able to make markings that allow her to see youkai. Also, it becomes clear that a female youkai had a bit of a crush on Natsume's grandmother.

Problematic Themes: Nyanko-sensei's pre-established drinking problem makes a few appearances.

Overall: I have become a die-hard Natsume fan. This season felt like a huge upgrade to me in terms of quality. I loved the stories in this one a lot more, and we have some new recurring characters. Seriously, this is now one of my favorite animes.

There are a lot more multi-part episodes and some new characters. My personal favorite was the two parter that revolved around their new cursed classmate, Taki. I also enjoyed the forray into the world of the exorcists and the unethical practices of the Matoba clan.

I'm also going to mention how the music was a huge upgrade. I love the opening theme so much! It's probably one of my favorites of all time. The ending was nice too!

As for suggested age, I think the late elementary and early middle school audience should be able to handle Natsume's Book of Friends since it's so clean. It's really a beautiful series, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
